Double post here as this seems to be a better place.
From MHH2006 - “I’m sick of this program being treated like a place for guys to come get a feee education & play some basketball while they are here.”
I agree with you MHH. Remember when we first started seeking football. A former UNC president came to our campus and spoke to students, faculty, and alumni telling us to know our place. He told us our campus did not need a football program. He said other campuses in the system already have that taken care of. And, if students want that experience they can go somewhere else. Similar comments have been made about Charlotte starting a med school or law school.
In other words, the system’s preferred programs don’t want any competition from Charlotte so “know your place.” This is the same with any other “major sport” at Charlotte. Our role should be to focus on the sports that get minimal attention. Let the other in state universities (primarily UNC) focus on the major sports.
Charlotte has, by far, the most potential and offers the greatest threat. Those with the greatest amount of Charlotte’s influence seem to always be content with participation. People that often appear to have the authority to make decisions often are controlled from above. I truly hope and believe this is no longer the case here at Charlotte.
Sanchez was an outstanding hire on paper, the top assistant on the most dominant basketball team over the past few years at the time, it just did not work out on the court, the question marks are the contract extensions and pending decision on whether to give Sanchez 4 or 5 years to prove his coaching ability ( or lack of ), in football, Hill originally wanted Houston who took JM to 3 straight FCS championship games and had an 86% win percentage, another outstanding hire on paper, but we all know what happened with that, Healy was a a little more of a gamble but turned around one of the worst FCS programs at the time and was able to bring in top recruiting classes in FCS to one of the worst programs, so again, on paper, although more of a gamble, a good hire, even though we are struggling in the two most important sports, Hill made great hires, or attempted hires on paper, how many people felt that way when Judy Rose hired Major, Price, and Lambert, Hill also got us into the AAC despite our lack of achievement on the field and on the court, and although his first basketball hire has not worked out and his football hire is only marginally better than his predecessor ( at this point ), I still believe that Hill is the AD that can lead our program to the level that we aspire to be at
Hill still has my strong vote. We just have to find a way to get back to relevance in MBB sooner than later. It’s been 2 decades now. Davidson, for goodness sake, has passed us by. We are better than this.
Same - he’s a good guy with great vision. Obviously in a tough spot right now, but ultimately things will turn around. (just wish it wouldn’t take decades!)
I still like Hill and I am more than willing to stick with the guy even though he wasn’t my first choice of the two candidates at the time. Especially with him being able to pull off the move to the American. I just wanted to point out in one of my previous posts that we have had a regime change when we went from Dubois to Gaber. And sometimes it doesnt take much for the new person in charge to make a change if they didnt make the original hire. especially if they have their own ideas in what direction they want to take the program.
Just look at what happened to the panthers when they went from richardson to tepper. they had a coach and QB who both went to the superbowl. but the moment they both slipped under tepper it didnt take long to get rid of both so he could make his own cultural changes to the program.
I just moved it to the other thread. I wasn’t sure about posting it but since there was only a first name I don’t think it gives too much away. I did trim it down to just the reply from Mike.
Isn’t Judy responsible for Lutz who gave us our best stretch of basketball ever? Judy was brutal, but she’s every bit as good as hill and probably better in my opinion
Right about now it all sucks. Judy sucked balls. Everything coming in with Mike right now is negative with exception of AAC invite and master plan. Basketball and football are basically In the same place as they were when he got here - which was bad.
