dean colvard was meticulous when it came to keeping his fingers out of athletics, but he was equally adamant that athletics were a part of the university and he was responsible for the whole thing. translated, that meant that he wasn’t going to try to run it, but he wasn’t about to relinquish control to any ‘outside’ groups.
doug orr (later president at warren wilson) was “vice chancellor for student affairs and community service” when walker was hired. athletics reported through him. colvard would have received the recommendation from him.
