African transplant Mouptaou Tarou was an eye-catcher at the Boo Williams Invitational and a flat out producer in Akron. The 6-foot-10 forward was one of the few come from nowhere surprises at the big man spot in April.

Sign him up, we need size.
Sign him up, we need size.
He was several inches taller than Gaby and about the same build. He looked bigger than his listed profile weight of 210. Not a skinny guy at all. We have 2 scholarships for 2009. One has to go to a big. The other to the best available.

Who cares if he’s skinny (which you say he isn’t). GW showed athletic guys that can run the floor can make up for the size difference. Just give me a guy who can come out of HS and block shots, and he can be developed into a pretty solid offensive post prescence by his junior year.

We need to seal the deal with some of these guys we have major ‘ins’ with. Former players of ours have been the uncle’s, coach’s, and son’s of some high profile recruits. If we can’t get those kind of guys to come here, then, damn.

this is the kind of guy i can get excited about. doesnt have to be a five star but he is a high riser with potential.

not trying to pick a fight here...but every D1 signee dominated HS, its sort of a prerequisite to playing college sports and doesn't mean much

that statement is not at all true. there are a lot of d1 guys who average probably 15 points or less a game and are far from dominant.

I’m guessing since he’s DC he’s a Moxley guy. Moxley’s early targets tend to be pretty good wherever they wind up.

Nope, he’s a Kummer guy. Cedric and Bobby played together here. Kummer gave him the tour. Cedric saw my son’s Niner jersey with number 31 and said, Benny Moss. I think we can expect to see Tarou making a stop in Wilmington as well. Problem is, as we all know, if the big name schools like Florida come calling, not even this type of connection can save us. We’ll see how much he blows up over the next couple of months.

I disagree. Guys like Willis Hall, Chadwick, Titus Robinson and some of these other good local players don’t dominate. They’re nice players. With only 2 scholarships for 2009, there’s not much room for nice players. We need the type of guy who dominates.

do your Alma Mater proud. Bring your stud recruit home!

I think his name may be spelled with an ‘h’:

Another player that has impressed many onlookers this spring is the 6’10 Mouphtau Tarou who plays prep ball with Massenutten Military Academy. “Tarou‘s recruitment is really picking up as well (with) New Mexico State leading the way, but his list is growing every weekend with Florida, and Virginia jumping on board.,” according to Jackson. Tarou impressed Brian Crownover in Akron last weekend with his ability to draw fouls and make his free throws. Tarou is strong and athletic in the post and puts forth constant effort on the glass.

Mouphtaou Tarou
Mouphtaou is a very talented big man. He’s strong and athletic and a tough match up. He really works a ton on the glass for the DC Blue Devils. The rebounding machine can score facing up or with his back to the basket. He had a lay-in and a couple follow up baskets. Mouphtaou also used his strength to convert an old fashioned three point play. He draws a lot of fouls and is already an impressive foul shooter. With George Mason coach Jim Larranaga looking on, as well as assistants from Pitt and DePaul, this big man put together a good game. He’ll have a bright future no matter whether he winds up at the mid major or high major level.

Tarou stopped by the Junior 49ers club clinic during his 5/3/08 visit (in case anyone missed it in the clinic thread)

Wasn’t he a 2-star recruit, like, a week ago?

Now he’s among the Top 50 players nationally - surpassing Karron Johnson

He was a 3-star two weeks ago when I posted his rivals profile. Now a 4-star and will be heavily recruited by the big boys. He’s blown up. Man, we need a guy like this!
