Movies šŸæ

We did also getting to grow up with 80s action flicks amazing franchises and still having classics not be THAT old.

My dad made me watch one flew over the cuckoos nest, easy rider and dr Strangelove.

Whoa is there a bond film on that list? Need to go back and look. I’d put goldfinger/dr no and casino royale on a list.

Which Casino Royale though? I love the 2006 one. Not sure if all the Bond purists do though.

The original Casino Royale with David Niven is a parody/satire/spoof, so not that one.

I’d take both - modern Bond with Craig and classic bond with Connery.

The OG casino with Sellers doesn’t make the cut. It is funny tho.

I second Advocates recommendations. The ones he mentioned are absolute classics.

I’ve seen most of these. Sadly my wife has lost total interest in going to or watching movies for various reasons I won’t divulge here in order to avoid ā€œa domestic situationā€.:rofl:

Does anyone on the board still regularly go to the movies?

I used to go once a week.

I have been 2 or 3 times since the pandemic started.

For me it’s too expensive. The value proposition is not there.

Before kids we went all the time and even after kids we went regularly. Now its a rare occasion and thats a combo of cost and lack of movies. Marvel movies were must see, not anymore. Nolan movies are the only must see movies for us at this point.

If you make a list of all the movies you want to see and use that list as the reference and are patient, you can typically see anything at no additional cost over what your already paying for existing services.

Also don’t overlook free services like Tubi and Pluto and YouTube. They have some good movies on those services. Although you have to wade through a lot of crap especially in Tubi and Pluto.

Only for movies I really want to see, probably go 25% as much as I used to. Quality is the main reason why, and I usually wait a week to see the audience reviews. I never did that before.

We went to the Museum of Pop Culture last week in Seattle. Thought you’d appreciate a few of the items on display.

Vader is from Episode V. Each episode had a different Vader costume. And the original AT AT storyboard drawing was really neat. If I recall correctly, the AT AT in the photo was used for the original stop motion shooting.

They had a ton of other stuff, including original Storm Trooper helmets, etc. This is just what I took photos of.

I’ve seen pretty much all of them except the comic universe and Harry Potter movies. The comic movies aren’t my thing, and I was probably too old for HP and my daughter is too young for when they were cool, so our windows to watch didn’t line up.

We are averaging 3 times per year since Covid hit, and at least one is usually a family movie that we go to simply because it’s the only decent thing playing. I’ve seen both Dunes, TG Maverick, and… Some family movies.

The problem isnt even the cost, though I agree it’s expensive. It’s that most of everything that has come out over the last few years has been absolute dreck that we had no interest in seeing. When the movies get better, we will go again. I like the cinema still. I just don’t like what’s playing in it.

Solid statement.

If movies were better perhaps I would go.

I did go see Oppenheimer last year.

Nolan got me out of the house.

Tarantino could probably get me out of the house.

It will have to be a must see.

This is one that I might go see with family.

Last movie I went to see in a theater was Top Gun Maverick. Since then, there hasn’t really been anything I’ve wanted to see in the theater. More than that; however, is the actual theater experience can suck these days with people talking/on cell phones, etc. I prefer to skip all that and just wait and watch at home later.

True that.

I stopped going on Friday or Saturday night a long time ago.

After witnessing so much insanity on the weekend at my local theater of choice (AMC at Concord Mills) that ended years and years ago.

Seems like rolling the dice nowadays. You may get a well behaved crowd. You might get a bunch of yahoos.

Took my daughter this past weekend, it was good, had a few solid jokes about other Disney movies and pop culture in general, it was overall a good time.

If I don’t see a movie on opening weekend I’m typically not gonna see it.

The opening shows are more likely not to have the people talking and phone because it’s people that really want to see it.

Kids movies are the exception - sat matinee is cheaper.
