So they cut it for cost / time, but while Ryland is probably still in stasis on his way to Tau Ceti, Eva Stratt, in a desperate move to save what is left of humanity (everyone is starving from the cold), decides to nuke Antarctica. They bury like 241 nukes under the ice / permafrost and detonate all of them, releasing a ton of methane hoping to cause a greenhouse effect to warm the planet some. I don’t recall it working very well, but it’s been a bit since I read the book. The author and the director said they really wished they could have included it, because it showed just how dire things were back on Earth.

This one will be interesting. Ideas in the book this is based on have been ripped off so many times - especially by The Matrix, that the book fans are going to painfully groan every time they read or hear someone say that this is the copy instead of the original. Like every fantasy / Harry Potter fan finally seeing Lord of the Rings and saying “Gandalf looks like a Dumbledore ripoff”. The amount of audible sighs and facepalming will probably be enough to fuel the planet for a few years. Especially when folks realize that this was written by a guy who hadn’t ever even owned a computer at the time (and how primitive they were anyway). This was visionary and defined the genre forever.

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic about this. Apple has a track record of at least trying to do justice to the source material. The trailer looks pretty good. Callum Turner seems like a good choice as well.

For some reason I watched Master of the Universe (it’s free on Prime now) with my son…

And it was good. I was surprised. It’s stupid, and silly, but in almost all the right ways. Probably deserved to do a lot better than it did in the theater. Good mindless summer flick. I think someone said that is Jared Leto as Skeletor, which is also a shock.

I’d give it about a 7.8/10, which for me is a very solid rating.

I watched Masters of the Universe as well on Prime. I was entertained, partly due to nostalgia, but primarily due to Camila Mendes.

Thought it was a total bore. Just drags out.

Just one man’s opinion.

I know the people that make the movies care about the $$, but I don’t.

Much more interested in # of tickets sold. Rank movies all time by butts in seats. Tells an entirely different story.

Scared Margot Robbie GIF by Bombshell Movie

Seems like it is going to be an absolutely massive hit

My family has tickets, but for next weekend. Most of the shows were sold out or only bad seats left this weekend.

Is this comparable to Wayne and Brent Gretzky holding the record for most goals scored by 2 siblings?

Saw it yesterday at Cinergy and it was a packed house. Movie was very good…..great action throughout and a really good story. While it’s a bridge film for the MCU, it really stands alone as a true Spider-Man film instead of relying heavily on multiple other heros/villains to drive the story.

Saw Spidey tonight.

My son saw it earlier this week and loved it. Raved about it.

My one word review:

Overstuffed.

I think there is a better movie hiding within this one. Some very healthy edits would have made this a definite A-/A. But as it was, I had more than a few nits to pick.

Those are spoilery details so I’ll keep them to myself for now.

Would be interested in what you’d change. Felt like a very human super hero film and had some great action. I would assume your nitpicks come from the third act maybe?
