Hi there Niner fans, basketball season will be here in about 2 and 1/2 months so I’m gonna give you my prediction of how the A10 will shake out this year.
I feel the top 7 will be a log jam atop the confrence, kinda like a few years back whenr 4 o 5 teams tied for the CUSA Title. Xavier will have to adjust without Cage and Doleman, but there are so many returning starters on the 7, not to mention Duquesne will have a lot of guys ready for this season. I the A10 could be a 3 bid league this year…
4 years ago, if you would have told me we would be in a conference that finished 10 spots behind dusquense I would have really thought that we have been involved in some huge scandal, we had to forfeit all of our scholarships, and we were holding tryouts and ended up taking Gill and JFelts sea turtle intramural team.

If we finish 11th in the A10, heads should roll. We have new players, but that is no excuse. Bobby will, no doubt, be fired if this happens.
That being said… I don’t think we finish 11th.
And at the same time, no way Duquesne finishes 1st. Are you people crazy? They finished 6-10 last year in conference as well as 10-19 overall. Yeah, they added three good players. It’s not like they added three major all stars. Not to mention, the A10 as a whole is getting better as well. Also, when your talking about unproven players, you should talk about players that have not proven themselves in that system yet. No one knows how they will all play together, and already we are naming them champion of the league. That’s insanity. People on this site freak out when we hype up our own team, but feel they are being “realistic” when they say Duquesne will finish 1st? Whatever, think what you guys want, but damn, think first.

welcome to reality.
Blimey! Were famous! You know if your intramural teams makes it on NNN, its cool.

No, but everybody knows internet message board predictions two months before practice begins have a 96.3% success rate. It’s a known fact, we shouldn’t bother playing this year, how can we overcome the overwhelming odds and pressure that come from mid-August message board predictions? I hope Lutz and the players don’t see this thread, as if they didn’t already have enough pressure on them!

Fixed.
Sorry to correct you, but you were exaggerating, a bit.
No way in hell do we finish lower than 5th. I’m going to say we finish 3rd. I’m going to remember this post and bring it back up when we finish conference play.

That’s being VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY optimistic…
no
but this is how low our program's expectations have realistically slipped in OUR eyes and others.
years ago, I would rip this guy’s predictions a new one, but I don’t have that confidence anymore
thank you for responding the way i would have.
Look, I highly doubt that the dukes finish first. I am also willing to say that we finish in the top 10.
However, when another conference fan, is bold enough to come on to another board, give a prediction that we will finish 11th (thank God for Richmond, Lasalle, and Bona), and it isn’t going to shock anyone, I would say that is devastating to the perception of our program.
I graduated in 2005 and went right to the work force where I was proud of our schools athletics, we had just come off amazing records in probably the toughest nonbcs conference in basketball. Now preseason rankings (websites, as well as umass13) have us in the lower third of the conference. For a once “die-hard” fan, that reduced my pride pretty easily. Don’t get me wrong, I think we can get back to where we were, but I don’t drop Charlotte 49ers basketball into as many sports conversations as much as I used to.
If Duquesne wins the conference THIS year (I’m not ruling it out in 08-09 if Shawn James doesn’t jump to the NBA after this season), then Ron Everhart deserves A-10 COY, national POY, and the key to the city of Pittsburgh, etc.!!! The Dukes will be greatly improved with James, Kojo Mensah, and Stuard Baldonado eligible this season and I expect them to finish in the upper half of the conference, but not numero uno in 07-08.
Anyway, here’s how I think the A-10 will finish:
1 Xavier
2 Rhode Island
3 Dayton
4 St. Joe’s
5 Fordham
6 Saint Louis
7 Duquesne
8 UMass
9 GW
10 Temple
11 Charlotte
12 La Salle
13 Richmond
14 Bona
