Hello, I am a long time charlotte 49er alum and fan. As a diehard fan, I am embarrassed at the current state of our athletic department, namely, the performances by the football and men’s basketball teams. we have not made the tournament since 2005, and based on what I have seen, the athletic department is okay with that. There does not appear to be any accountability for mediocre results. The two sports are poorly marketed, and things only appear to be getting worse in terms of on the field/court results. The basketball team just embarrased themselves on national television but I am not confident that anyone in the athletic department cares. I love my alma mater and it is painful to watch us become a laughing stock. We were once a relevant program but we are now a mediocre(at best program) in a bad conference. We are almost never on television and when we are, we put on performances like we did tonight against Florida. The worst part about it, is that I don’t believe that anyone in the athletic department cares. Do results matter, or is mediocrity accepted? I used to go to every game but now it is getting harder and harder to go to games. I hope you read this email and understand that many, many(or however many fans we have left) of our fans feel the same way.
thanks

Don’t be surprised if you get a reply reminding you how great our women’s team is.
They don’t care.
They really don’t care. They get a paycheck whether we are good or bad.
Almost none of them are alums. This is a job to them and nothing else. Passion means additional work.
I would not include football in this. After year 4 I feel like football is progressing
And they won’t until they depend on alums for their salary.
Has ninerfan55 come to the dark side side of niner athletics?
this isn’t the first email to the a.d. dont get confused because of my optimism about price and our talent, i am as angry and dislike judy and the way our athletic department is run as much as anybody on the board. last night, and previous games this season have really worried me. the team doesn’t appear to have heart in these games. defending one on one is about fundamentals. i hope it is just the lack of a big. we can recruit bigs but i am a bit more worried about price’s coaching ability than i was. i don’t like hearing him say that we are ahead of where we were last season. it is impossible to be ahead of where we were at the beginning of last season. are we ahead of where we were at the end of last season? i don’t necessarily think so. granted, we lost scott and uchebo but we are more talented as a whole and we have a lot of bad habits that you might not just be able to chalk up to lack of a big.
So how long before Spease fires Judy?
Radom comments: Spease has a CLT degree… I miss us winning in bball… I imagine lower level tix have to be pretty cheap these days… I think we can get hot for conference play and I’d rather us lose early and bad then fall apart at the end… 6-4 isn’t anything to be excited about but I’m always wishful that we’ll get our “business” together. ;D
There were many a Niner seasons where we went into winter break and came back a different team(usually worse)… maybe we can come back a MUCH better one this go around.
It’s almost 2017 so new chances and new opportunities!
^ well we play our stellar cusa league mates so with over half of the remaining games against 200+ RPI teams (3-4 games against 300+ RPI teams) I sure hope we don’t look worse than we do now. Should be a riveting few months. Elon is currently our signature win of the year.
We kissed bball goodbye when we added football and came back to the sorry CUSA

We are one conference level away from being in a fairly decent basketball league (AAC - despite ECU). I think some of you want instant gratification and don’t understand the long game.
Our basketball program fell apart in a decent A10. Our current state has little to do with conference affiliation and everything to do with our leadership.

There is no “moving up”

If we have sustained success we can move up see Butler, TCU, and Louisville.

Problem is our AD is incapable of doing that. Until she’s gone, nothing is going to change.
