Those last two posts are missing the plot. Amateur athletics pretense is over. There is no point to eligibility rules anymore. It’s an improper limitation on the right to employment.

Hate it, but if the courts are consistent he gets the year. Seems like limiting their right to employment is winning out based on the JUCO cases.

The serious challenges to eligibility rules will be once all these players are in contracts being paid by the schools. Then the argument really has solid footing against limiting their compensation unless they can find a way to collectively bargain that, but even then why would a bunch of players who aren’t good enough for the NFL sign off on that?

The NCAA and the P4 are terrified of becoming the G League of football. They will do everything they can to avoid making the players employees, including maintaining eligibility rules.

Doesn’t mean it’s gonna work, but they’re gonna try.
