Those last two posts are missing the plot. Amateur athletics pretense is over. There is no point to eligibility rules anymore. Itâs an improper limitation on the right to employment.
Hate it, but if the courts are consistent he gets the year. Seems like limiting their right to employment is winning out based on the JUCO cases.
I dont See how eligibility stands once you admit paying players.
The serious challenges to eligibility rules will be once all these players are in contracts being paid by the schools. Then the argument really has solid footing against limiting their compensation unless they can find a way to collectively bargain that, but even then why would a bunch of players who arenât good enough for the NFL sign off on that?
The NCAA and the P4 are terrified of becoming the G League of football. They will do everything they can to avoid making the players employees, including maintaining eligibility rules.
Doesnât mean itâs gonna work, but theyâre gonna try.
NCAA wins another eligibility case.
Another NCAA âvictoryâ on the heels of denying Memphisâs Dain Dainja another year.
IMO I dont think the eligibility law suits are going to win much until he contracts start clearly tying payment for services to playing the sport for the school, which is coming as the schools are trying to lock the kids in for the money that they are paying. Once that occurs then the legal arguments of removing eligibility rules are going to be much easier.
Zeiglerâs Vol hoops career over and will suit up as a Detroit teammate of Brice in NBA Summer League.
Itâs going to fall at some point.
