NCAA recommends hoops rule changes

A lot of Lutz in this piece! Highlights include:

[ul] [li]Tougher penalties for excessive elbow swinging that could result in a flagrant foul call giving the opponent 2 FTs, possession, and ejection of the elbower[/li]
[li]Experimental use of men’s 3-point line during women’s exhibitions and scrimmages that could lead to men and women once again using same line[/li]
[li]Experimental use of a visible arc under the basket as used in the NBA during men’s exhibitions and mutli-team tournaments[/li][/ul]
ESPN.com: NCAA proposes tougher penalties

A nonvisable arc under the basket was not a good idea.

Here’s the official release, with even more Lutz than the AP story.

As opposed to what? Making up the rules as they go?

Does this mean there will be more walking and palming violations called? If so I’m all for it.

Interesting turn of events related to that as Big 12, Conference USA, Ohio Valley, and Southland form a consortium to manage their basketball referees, including this tidbit:

The goal is to build consistency in how games are called within the four leagues.
