High Point University announced this morning a college of health sciences. It will include physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy and pharmacy programs. The heck with UNC politics I suppose. Also a 5500-seat arena, a men’s lacrosse program and an “inevitable” football team once land is found.
That’s one heck of an alumnus right there. We would have plenty of money for football and would already be the University of Charlotte with Nido at the helm.
He is a good leader, but when you’re the one ponying up that kind of dough people become a lot more receptive to whatever you want to do.
It’s from Nido and his business(s). No idea how he makes it. I read his bio once and was more confused about what he did to get his fortune than before I read the piece.
He runs an international consulting firm, which huge corporations utilize over and over. That = big bucks. Not only that, he’s the Chairman of Great Harvest Bread Company, Financial Director of BB&T, and serves on the board of La-Z-Boy.

Yeah, he’s quite an interesting guy. I had the chance to meet him several years ago. He came to the US with basically nothing and worked his way up. I admire the man.
$300 million has been spent recently. The next phase is $900 million to make it $2.1 billion over 10 years. The UNC Charlotte administration would (and could) never generate this kind of media attention.
So far, HPU has invested $468 million for major improvements, including 28 new buildings, classrooms, learning centers and more than 100 campus innovations.
Despite the size of the plan, HPU can expand without adding to the $150 million construction debt portfolio, Qubein said.
“No borrowing is needed,” he said. “We will do it with fundraising.”
