NINERS 97 GRYPHONS 67

Per a former diamond Niner at the game (yes we had a fan in Toronto following the team):

Niners were led by Brendan Plavich with 25, Basden with 23, Sager with 12, and Withers with 12. Couldn’t get anything more.

The Basdenator in full effect. If only they all could be more like him…

If Plavich scores consistently like this during the season, some people around here are going to be difficult to live with.

Good work guys, now hit the books and get a bit of rest. Coach Lutz is gonna be an animal come Saturday!

Pfeiffer is 22 days away… and picked first in preseason Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference voting.

Seems like we’re seeing some nice balance, with some new faces leading the way in each of these games. Definitely seems to be some consistency with Plav and a couple others but I like seeing guys like Basden and Sager hit double-digit scoring. May have had more to do with the rotations Lutz was experimenting with in each game but promising nonetheless.

Looking forward to getting back out to Halton on Friday for an early taste of action. Pfeiffer should be an interesting game HP. Good for the local interest and they may actually give us a pretty decent test, as far as exhibitions go.

I would honestly be surprised if we won by more than 25. Pfeiffer has a hell of a team. Granted we have a HUGE size advantage and athleticism advantage on them, they are well coached and execute well. I would expect to see something like a 82-65 game or so. If a team like Humbard can be leading us at the half, I know Pfeiffer can give us a run for our money.

I like the production from Plav, I just worry it is because he’s not getting guarded well. However, it seems he is taking good shots, and I hope he keeps doing that throughout the season. He’s not really hitting a lot more than he did last year, he’s just shooting a much better %. That’s what we’ve needed from him all along, it is the difference between a dangerous roleplay with big game potential and a solid starter.

Observer Game 3 story

On the tour, Plavich led the 49ers with a 21.7 scoring average, shooting .613 from long range (19-of-31). Basden averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.0 steals, and shot .526 from the floor.

BTW, Plavich also named 49er “Player of the Week”: Player of the Week for October 11, 2004

GO NINERS!!!

OBVIOUSLY BP isn’t going to shoot that well for the season.
But if he can shoot no less than 20% below that level (from 3pt arc), I’ll be very very happy.

By the way, damn the Observer for Flash ads. Firefox doesn’t block them yet (as far as I know). When I linked to the article there was a particularly annoying Bobcats ad that obscured part of the article and I couldn’t find any way to close it.

This might help with the flash ads…

I haven’t tried it, but it looks like it might help. While you’re there, I highly recommend the google toolbar and also BugMeNot. The toolbar is indispensible and BugMeNot allows you to quickly get a registration login and pass for registration only sites(non-pay only)…
