Niners by numbers (Men's basketball)

So, as many of you may know, I’m going to UNCW in the fall to pursue an MA in English under the literary theory track. Consequently, I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to bone up on UNCW history, and I’ve noticed that there are a lot of things that would make this task easier that we could use on OUR board. Here’s a big one: players by their numbers. I’ll start the list and then everyone else who knows way more history than me can add to it. Fun for all! My goal here is comprehensiveness.

00-Antwon Coleman, Javarris Barnett, Chris Nance
1-Curtis Nash, EJ Drayton, James Zimmerman, CJ Pigford, Mike Gerrity

May I make a few suggestions?

First, make note of retired numbers, and which player earned the number’s retirement.

Secondly, NCAA mandates that a player’s number be composed of digits five or less. Removing these numbers should make it easier to read, since no Niner could feasibly wear them in the future.

it would be nice to see the years each player spent at Charlotte

I’m not sure which #'s he wore, but Butter Johnson must have set the record for most different numbers worn. I wanna say he ended up wearing 4 or 5 different numbers by the time he was done.

21 - Chad Kinch
23 - Lew Massey
25 - Kevin King
44 - Robert Earl Blue

And oh yeah,

32 - Melvin Watkins

Man, I totally didn’t know that.

Iti wore 2, not 32. http://www.charlotte49ers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/iti_martin00.html

Jonathan Neely… doubt he wore 33. I could be wrong since I spent more time staring at that thing on the back of his head.

Chris Nance also wore 00
