i honestly can say i dont know the real reason, other than at my SOAR, they said that we were named that because the school was established in 1949…it says 1946 on one of my shirts tho.

bingo. it may be over 50%. but this is also true for many schools. how did dook get name blew devils? how did unc-r get name wolfpeckers? no wolves live around raleigh and in durham the closest devils may be 8 miles down the road in chapel hill.

Duke got their name from a group of students that were fighting in WWI or WWII and came back and their lives were saved by a group of French fighters and their squad name meant “Blue Devils”
The only reason i know that is it was on a little stuffed blue devil I had, pre-ninerization.
