But how in the Fawnk do we give up 78 points to St Louis WITHOUT Reggie Bryant?? They had 24 assists on 29 field goals…alot of layups and open looks…That Is Absolutely Terrible!!
If not for Curt’s career night, we wouldn’t have been close.
I’ll take the W but, man, we have got to fix the lack of focus/intensity issue when we play substandard teams! That is the most frustrating thing about being a Niners fan…and we do it every year and have been ever since I started following the Niners in 1990.
Sorry for the negativity but ECU, Rutgers, Yale, SLU…IT’S FREAKIN KILLING ME!! Have some killer instinct and bury these scrubs!!!
I hate to get down on our players…I even tried not to say anything bad about Butter when he traveled 6 times a game… but what kind of game was that from Iti? Fouls out, 0 points, a bunch of missed rebounds, pathetic… way to step up with nance out.
What would you expect from Iti? I’ve said it all along. We’re better with him on the bench, and if you look at 1 of my posts yesterday,I said that maybe the best thing that could happen to us would be Martin getting in foul trouble early, and maybe E.J. playing a lot more.

Yeah.. I hate to say it but I was kind of glad when he fouled out.... that allowed us to get someone in there that could rebound.
No depth inside without Nance…and Iti score 0. Bigger question is how did we win…Curtis. I’m more concerned with Mitch. He shoulder must still be bothering him cause he is not even looking to score. We need his agressiveness back.
Our interior defense was lacking last night, but I was actually pretty happy with our overall defense. As usual, teams just make shots against us. There’s no good explanation for it, other than it’s mental. Remember Alex Loughton last year? He just couldnt miss.
As usual though, we don’t rotate well and the book is obviously out on us that if you swing the ball around long enough, eventually the corner is gonna be wide open. Another poster told me last night that we rank #2 in CUSA in 3Pt FG defense, but we give that shot up every night, and it’s always wide open.
I’m glad Bobby abandoned the press. Asusual, it was totally ineffective. We should just play man with an occasional box and one, and try to play the passing lanes. As long as Plav isnt being iso’d, or Iti isn’t being posted up, we’re fine in man.
Interior defense isn’t helped by foul trouble and a mssing interior player. Glad we survived without Nance. It is hard to be aggressive when you are in foul trouble. I also suspect that the players knew they were a man short so had to play a little careful all game to ensure they didn’t get in early foul trouble as well.
I was happy that Saint Louis scored that many points. That means we finally got them to play at a tempo we wanted to play at. We have never been able to do that with them.
I love that we finally won at St Louis, the teams we face always light us up from outside because plav can’t rotate to contest the three. We were wondering why leemire was not in for defesne last night on the last possessions by St Louis?
On offense when there is a close game, Eddie drives on the left side and misses the shot…Without Withers rebounding last night and getting stick backs we lose.
12 assists is not good, Mitch is not healthy. With healthy Baldwin he looks to score and penetrate.
Other teams know how we play and do so accordingly.
Agree about Mitch. He’s clearly not 100% and hasn’t played very well since reinjuring the shoulder. I think he’s feeling it when he attempts to extend his arms upwards (as in shooting). We should be fine but Lee may have to step his game up and expect more minutes down the stretch.

[b] Curt saved us tonight...

…and after missing both free throws, he goes down to the other end and commits a foul that lets SLU get within 1 and fouls out when we are shorthanded.
I don’t know where everybody is getting that Mitch is hurt. He’s had 16 assists and only 4 TO’s in the last 3 games. Sure, he’s not scoring, but with Eddie, BP, and Curt, we don’t need him to score. I thought he looked to push the ball last night when it was there, and settled into the offense when it wasn’t. It was plain to see that Curt was abusing their whole team, so that became the focus of our offense. I can clearly remember one play where Mitch drove hard down the left side, drew the double team at the rim, and dished to Curt for the dunk.
I show him with 7 to’s in the last three…but thats still a great ratio. Since the injury he is avg. roughly 3 shots a game and two ft a game. He is best when he is aggressive and he isn’t right now. Mitch also has the best ratio of FTA from shots taken. He gets to the line at a high rate per shot than anyone on the team…by a large margin. He just doesn’t shoot enough. He has taken less shots than Iti.
Any one person can be shut down…If we have a multiple attack with multiple weapons we will be tough to beat. And if he is taking it coast to coast and keeping the defense from getting set up in the half court we have a layers at their strengths. BP with open looks…Curt,Ed/Iti crashing boards or getting transition dunks.
Mitch plays smart basketball. He takes what the defense gives him and seldom forces his game, if at all. Fear not folk, all is as it should be with #20.
No, smoothie was right, Balwin has 16 assists and 4 TO’s in the last three games. I don’t know why everyone is worried about play like that.
His shoulder is fine, he is just not looking to score which is unselfish. We have plenty of weapons so he is focussing on taking care of the ball and getting it to our scorers which is exactly what he has been doing.
BTW, that steal he had last night on the 2 on 1 break was sick. He stripped the ball and managed to get it to Plav while falling out of bounds.

Agree. Baldwin is just been very unselfish lately. He took it to the hole a couple of times against Cinci until they decided to play off him. I think this is just Mitch finding his role more. Teams have seen the tape on Mitch and are not playing him as close, they know they can’t keep up with him. Mitch is adjusting and getting the rest of the team involved.
Now about Leemire;
I like him and think he can be a good offensive weapon. I liked seeing him taking the ball to the basket yesterday and he played well last game against Cinci, but he is more of a shoot first point guard then Demon was. Hope we have somebody else in mind to be the pg of the future.
What’s up guys. This is my first post, but I’ve been reading the threads for a few weeks now. Great site. Just took a Leemire opinion to get me posting.
I think Leemire is one of the most dangerous players on the floor if he goes to the basket. The problem is he looks to finish every single time, not dish. He is a natural 2 guard, not PG, so you may be right in filling a PG role after Mitchell graduates. But LG has intensity that will carry him (and us) a long way in the future. He has a knack for knocking down a 3 when the opposition is gaining momentum, a crossover that is killer, and an untucked fashion sense that will soon be the rage for Gameday-watching chicky babies.
Anyway, excited about the team. I say 7 seed this year. One more loss coming in Conference and a runner-up finish in CUSA tournament. Just a feeling.
