Observer Gameday: 49ers' foe familiar

Glad to see Lutz isn’t lightly regarding Fordham. They’re going to win some conference games and they have two cracks at us. We can’t let that happen. Let’s get the first of two today. :49ers:

BTW… The Observer has been much better for my blood pressure this year vs previous years.

Fordham is a really tough team to figure out. I have yet to watch them play - but the reviews I have heard on their games have been terrible.

5 freshman starters evolved into a top defensive unit as juniors last year at Fordham. And the players trumpeted how they were going to be unstoppable as seniors. Instead, the exact same team has been awful. How do you forget how to play defense? At this point, they’re just playing for the pride they have left. And they showed signs of a pulse in the last 2 games.

I am getting a little nervous, but I always am before games.

Was I one of those? I saw them play Georgetown and they were terrible. Now, that may be in part because it was Gtwn who have some really talented athletes. But they really played poor defense and no one outside of Dunston and Stout could hit a basket. Their offense was extremely limited to either 3 pt shots or Dunston taking his man one-on-one. Dunston might have been able to cause some foul trouble for them if he would take it strong, but he often settled for the midrange jumper with a hand in his face, which he consistently missed. Gerrity and Harris will probably have good games, their guards are not very tall or all that quick iirc.

Jim, can you include some of the rpi stuff in your A-10 stuff and how the season would play out if we could go 10-6, 12-4 in the conference. Would 20 wins be enough?

Also, heard we are one of only 7 teams to have beaten at least 7 top 100 rpi teams.

Lefty, I was until App dropped under 100 after WINNING the other night, so that stat isn’t as relevant at the moment.

Yep, that was on Lutz Live and in the Game Notes on charlotte49ers.com. IMO, it is likely Jim included that in his story. Afterall, it is an interesting FACT.

However, it probably got edited so Scott Fowler could drool over how amazing it is for a Duke fan to wave a damn towel over his head and have fans get excited.

Today’s sports page is just more proof that WHEN the Charlotte 49ers go back to the Final Four, the Charlotte Observer will find some obscure, silly excuse to not send a reporter to cover the team. NASCAR will need some extra coverage or they will suddenly decide to go super-in depth of every possilble draft pick that year for the Panthers. Anything they can think of will work.

Just think, we could be the 1st school in NCAA Final Four history to not have hometown media coverage.

Mike P… I’ll save you some time. Here is your excuse.

“Because of the unfortunate timing of events on the Sports Calendar, we have made a decision to provide only wire stories as the Charlotte 49ers advance to this weekend’s Final Four. This is not a budget issue, but with our goal to provide indepth coverage across the entire Carolinas region, some tough decisions had to be made. We hope you enjoy this weekend’s special insert section: The ACC Hoops Coaches Pick Their Favorite Menu Items at McDonalds”."

Mike, all you have to do is cut and paste this quote at the appropriate time. I also gave you (for free) a new story angle for Mr. Fowler’s next insightful piece of journalism.

Silvio, see above. The stat is no longer true after App’s win over Furman.

clt asks if the observer is still a sponsor of niner hoops

They have a sign on a sidelinetable if that’s what you’re asking, clt. Of course, it shows to the students side and we all know they don’t read the newspaper.

good stuff there, very good.

Hell, if we made it to the Final Four and didn’t get (what was it) FOUR reporters covering us then I would be pissed. Mike said himself one time that (I think when CH was in the FF) that it’s standard to send four if one of their teams is in the Final Four.

Of Course, we would probably get some BS excuse of how there’s too many people on vacation, other spots has to be filled, and Jim has to go to race coverage as you said.

There are lots of free Observer copies passed out at the racetrack.
