Altidore sprained ankle, might be out for England per ESPN
Well it’s good this happened at a position we have some depth… >:(
So this means we throw out Findley, Buddle, and/or Gomez on top against England? Yikes.
it might not be as bad as we think
U.S. Men's National Team forward Jozy Altidore sat out training today after incurring a mild right ankle sprain during Wednesday’s practice. Altidore’s status is considered day-to-day, and he will undergo a fitness test Friday to determine his availability for the June 5 friendly against Australia. An x-ray taken early on Thursday was negative.
i was going to throw out my predictions as well, but i thought it would be more fun to create a “niner nation” group on the espn fantasy site for us to join and play. i created groups for the following games (all free to play, and just for bragging rights i guess…maybe a free coke and popcorn this bball season?). Join the Bracket Predictor, 2010 Soccer Pick’em, and World fantasy games, all “Niner Nation” all public no password required. The bracket predictor is all at once predictions, the 2010 pick’em does all the first round, then you gotta revisit after for eliminations, and World Fantasy is a weekly roster game, so it may not behoove you to pick c. ronaldo w/ a tough first game, that or if you despise guys with talent but love to trip over blades of grass. or don’t and i’ll be the only one in the group and for once i’ll finally win a group. huzzah!!
ps. i think you can create up to 5 entries per game, so if you can’t quite pick b/w team a or team b, create another entry and go with the opposite.
Bump!
I’m in. Get your picks in everyone!
I’ll guess the final eight will be Argentina, Uruguay, England (though I’d pick Ghana if Essien was playing), Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Ivory Coast (!), and Brazil.
Final four of England, Brazil, Germany, Italy (though I’m tempted to put Ivory Coast in here),
with Brazil beating Italy for the title. Kind of like the NCAA tournament, earlier round upsets usually give way to the traditional power teams in the end.
Just wanted to point out that I made these picks before Drogba broke his arm (now saying he’s out of the world cup). Not much is going right for the African teams right now.
Maybe I can get on to Geeosphere’s game and pick a little differently.
just read that too 9erken. going to have to change my picks if he’s out. think picks don’t lock until tourny starts. gotta imagine drogba out for ivory coast is a huge blow. that’s gotta be like lebron going down and the cavs just crumbling. someone else’s striker got hurt as well…Chile’s?
edit. rio ferdinand out for england, not that he played much this year for man u anyways. but still, good defender out. pirlo is hurting for italy, starting mid. but italy has depth at mid so not too huge a blow for them if he’s out. brazil’s cesar (gk) is hurt as well and i think i read on soccerbyives this morning that kaka is nursing an injury as well. seems like an injury bug is out and about
Upset special: Brazil doesn’t make it out of Group G. True story.
I really think Slovenia can slip in past the US in Group C. They play BORING one goal games with some pretty good Defensemen smothering attacks.
Could see a tie or upset win against the US, a loss to England and a win against Algeria.
Speed doesn’t really work against them because they do not overextend. Will be interesting.
Upset special: Brazil doesn’t make it out of Group G. True story.
Ignore this. Didier Drogba broke his arm today. That blows for IC.
USA and Nederland. K go!
5 Days till US vs England !!!
i thought (and that’s my first mistake right there) that in europe, those salaries are actual take home monies. meaning, if c. ronaldo makes $17.06mil/yr in his contract, that’s exactly how much he makes. the club is responsible for covering taxes and such. i believe i read/heard that somewhere before. not to mention that the clubs will also provide housing and cars and whatever else they can throw at the star. something that the nfl/nba/mlb/etc can’t do. or maybe this is how i fantasize how it would’ve been for me…sigh.
I think Cass might pop a blood vessel if we choke vs England.
yea, it’s gonna be a bad day in the casstommy household if we dont get a result against England.
Even before the Drogba injury this was a ludicrous comment. Ivory Coast will play well and they will create chances but let’s be serious here, they have very little if any chance against Brazil and Portugal. African teams are almost always disappointing on defense and they always have the worst GKs in the tournament. Sure, they have the Toure brothers and Eboue back there but that doesn’t mean it will translate to a solid, organized defense. It’ll be interesting but I honestly believe that come the third round of matches in that group, the Brazil vs. Portugal match will be meaningless.
This is for Cass
The limey bastards must pay
