I was told the same by someone in the AD in 2013 when I toured the facility. No lockers, give them hooks.
Iām fine with what Lambert did with the visitor lockers and Iām sure Healy and Hill are too. Our own locker space being inadequate, however, smacks of āweāre not going to build that concessions pod so we can get a better video boardā level asshattery.

Going back to our discussion about the locker room only being designed to be big enough for an FCS program:
-
I counted 101 separate alcoves in that rendering, which I know may not be enough, but I doubt we have more than 130 kids dressing out per game.
-
Thereās a lot of unmarked empty space beside the lime green colored locker room that could be used as locker room. I have no idea what the area is currently being used for but there is no way whatever is there (baring heavy bolted down facilities machinery) canāt be located elsewhere.
Those that have been down there more recently have any insights why this area canāt be converted to more locker space?
I cant recall it all but they have repurposed different areas - like the lounge now being food related. I think that area has been repurposed as well.
I can see that, but if locker room space is an issue then it would be a priority to move some of that stuff elsewhere and move more lockers in.
They do have a little room under the home side ābridgeā if they think everything in the building now needs to stay there. Build out an extension there and gain a few thousand more feet of space.
South Alabamaās new stadium is nearing completion.
Itās not the sexiest stadium but still looks a lot more big time than ours. If we didnāt get a knockout hire in Healy Iād feel very pessimistic about our future as all these other schools pass our facilities by.
Damnit. Every time this thread gets bumped I get excited and then let down lol. Agree with NN. Not bad but still looks pretty big. Iād prefer we leave the end zone how it is, which would allow for taller upper decks along the sidelines vs south Alabamaās uppers wrapping the whole stadium.
It will be interesting to see how the future of athletic events look. Are there max capacity sizes? I want the stadium expanded as soon as possible as well but Iām not near as concerned as you guys.
Master Facilities plan on āpauseā for now according to Hill. I understand COVID-19 changes everything but I canāt say Iām not disappointed.
Abilene Christian University has a relatively new stadium that Charlotte could borrow some design elements. Their press box and suites gives the stadium a ābig timeā feel.
When the panthers build their new dome on the old pipe foundryās land that just relocated, we can take one of the old video boards from BOA stadium and place it in our end zone. But thatās enough video board to split among football, soccer and baseball.
Master plan is also paused so that they can redesign it to a 68,0000. This will give us 34k (Butts in seats) stadium and allow one seat empty between each fan. Also installing VR sideline suites. Donāt even have to be at the gameā¦can log on to your VR sports service.
Whatās going to be expensive is the upgraded metal detectors with infrared body thermal imaging to detect elevated body temperatures.
Oh, donāt bring cash. Wonāt be accepted anymore. Just plastic.
Im just kidding guys, just crazy how these are all thing we have to take into account nowā¦as far as design wise. This Texas high school looks exactly like ours. Yes, thatās right, a high school. Look up Allen High School in Texas. Gives you an idea for how uppers would look.
I really like the look of that! (I realize its a high school stadium) The overhanging seat fill out the stadium and having a press tower is a must. We need the last pod to fill out the away side. Has the feel of a desert over there when the stadium isnāt full.
I would like to know how their Athletic budget compares to ours? I guess they donāt have to pay for scholarships.
Random thoughts: If the next administration takes us to free college for all we no longer have to pay for athletic scholarships, right? Will the Federal government pay student fees, including the Athletics Fee? If so, our available revenue will go through the roof.
Good questions actually. I doubt free college ever happens but frankly Iād be angry if the government provided anything more than tuition. Living on campus is a choice. Attending a school with athletics is a choice.
Free college would be tuition to a state community college or university. No way that type of program would pay for living on campus, Athletic fees, etc.
This is crass but that type of program would actually benefit large city schools like ours because it would motivate more talented students to stay in town and go to the local university. That would seriously impact the traditional College town university.
Never going to happen though.
Why? Several states already do some version of this. Unless things have changed, Georgia is one of them. Free tuition if you maintain a solid GPA IIRC.
These programs are a far cry from free tuition for all state schools. ā Most are whatās known as ālast dollarā scholarships, meaning the program pays for whatever tuition is left after financial aid and grants.ā there were also income limits.
Unless a universal program is in place that does not have any income limits and simply pays for the tuition not āwhatās left over after grants and aidā then it isnāt really free tuition.
Anyone got pictures of the new field?
Does anyone have any updates on stadium expansion? If not, could someone make something up. I need something to get excited about. This is taking way too long.
