OT: College Rejections at Record Level
Quoted for truth.

It sounds like there will not be a reduction in the quality of the incoming students despite the growth of the student population at Charlotte. Is the increasing # of rejections indicitive of college populations not increasing at the same rate as the general population?
I’d say the increase is in qualified applicants overall, not population. More kids want to go to college than ever.

Yeah, they’ve seen the alternative watching Jerry Springer.

clt’s ā€œsafety schoolā€ was nc state.

I applied to 2 schools…Charlotte was my 2nd choice. I don’t regret it for a second.

I applied to 4 schools and Charlotte was my last choice. I didn’t get into UNC and I didn’t get the financial aid I was looking for to go to USC or WVU. WVU is probably the one of the least selective schools in the nation so its probably not as good as Charlotte educationally speaking, but there is more to do around there.

When I was deciding on schools, I visited the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and was horrified. Then I visited Charlotte and thought everything about it was perfect.

Incidently, I turned down my acceptance into the school and worked for a year to save up some money for school. I reapplied and was accepted again. So for a good year, I was dreaming about school in Charlotte

For me at least, it was always my #1 choice.

Myself…I made Charlotte my first choice originally because of the business program. Ironically…I’m now majoring in History/Secondary education. Still, Charlotte won out for me after I’d already been accepted to ASU, ECU, George Washington, and Elon (all schools I was interested in for different reasons).

And even though now I’m not even here for the program that SOLD me on Charlotte…I don’t regret it a bit. I’ve gotten to experience things here (for better or worse) that I never would have gotten anywhere else.

Wow. It’s great to ā€˜hear’ all of the honesty. Who knew that Charlotte was EVERYBODY’S safety school? And the fact that you put it on NNN is great too. Not only does everybody here care, now anybody coming to this site can see that if they need a safety school, Charlotte is it. Also, way to add what your first, second, third…choices were too. It brings more perspective to what you are saying.

When I found out that all of UNCC was air-conditioned, and much of NCSU was not I knew where I would go to school. I am not living in some barn.

LOL… For me it was NCSU as well. I went to that orientation and couldn’t get back to Charlotte fast enough to enroll here. Never looked back…

Charlotte, UNCW, and App. Liked the city better than living in the mtns or beach. It was great then…and students now really have it made with so much to do in the Univ area. Never even considered Chapel Hill or State.

FWIW, I had a manager’s position lined up for the basketball team at NCSU in 1976. I visited UNCC as a favor to my high school coach who worked the camps here. Immediately sold on UNC Charlotte, the completed NC State application never was mailed to them.

it’s a good thing you chose charlotte over state. otherwise you would be one confused individual right now wondering who your next basketball coach will be.

me too. i wanted ac. that is one of the reasons. the other reason was the coeds. charlotte was my first choice.

The main reason Charlotte was my 4th choice was because I wanted to get away from Charlotte, not because I thought it was a bad school. I’ve lived in the area my whole life so a change of scenery would have been nice, but its really not so bad here. It’s nice only having to drive 25-30 minutes if I want to go home.

i will admit. i did consider the University of Hawaii as my 1st choice but Charlotte was my realistical 1st choice.

I know what you’re talking about Lake! It was hard to throw away that Hawaii application. As for me, money dictated where I went for undergrad. I got a full ride at a small private school in eastern NC. You go where you’re parents can afford to send you. I did get accepted to Chapel Hill, State, UNCW, and ECU though. As far as Charlotte, I chose to do my masters there over Wake for more than one reason. One being cost and the second being location. My buddy, also a Charlotte MBA, chose Charlotte business school over Kenan Flagler and he’s doing extremely well these days.

Applied to Charlotte, UNC, and ECU. Accepted by all. No-brainer decision for me.
