"Should you ever coach a basketball team, do not choose the players on the floor based on who you like. In the immortal words of Tom Penders, “If Adolf F’in Hitler could hit the three, I’d play him.”

Care to comment on Mrs. Penders, CharlotteAlum?

It depends on the player. At Colorado, the coach that won 1/2 of a nat’l title let one of his star players that had cancer knock up his daughter.
As long as the player wins, then he can f*ck your daughter if you’re a coach.

Sal Aunase was not a star player. He was the starting quarterback in 1988, but only had marginal success. During the offseason, he did have a baby with coach McCartney’s daughter. Bill was/is a very devoted Christian man, and even though he did not approve of the unmarried impregnation, he welcomed Sal into his family with open arms. He did this to a mediocre QB out of love for his daughter and unborn child. This all happened right before the “Golden Season” of 1989. That same offseason, Sal came down with an aggressive cancer that took his life within a few months. Because of the illness, back-up sophomore Darrien Hagan took over the helm at QB in 1989 and proved to be a star. The national championship came during the 1990-1991 season.

A few year’s later, Bill McCartney left coaching the Buffs to start Promise Keeper’s. McCartney, by all acounts, is a very moral and loving individual. Since then, the program has had a couple of guys with the integrity of Calipari: Rick Nueheisel and Gary Barnett. Thus, the program has gone to the sewer, on the field and off.

Stonecold, I understand you are a Christian. I think you would enjoy Coach Mac’s bigraphy, From Ashes to Glory: Conflicts and Victories on and Beyond the Football Field.
