OT: Poor ol' ACC gets no respect

From today’s Observer…

The theme of Sunday's ACC media day was that coaches believe the conference doesn't get enough NCAA Tournament bids because the media don't talk or write enough about how good the ACC is.

Geez… :violin:

Surely they were just having fun, right? No way they said that with a straight face.

That’s pretty funny…

The only thing missing was the ACC coaches blaming NNN for the lack of bids.

 What?! No way. I’m with MK, no way they seriously meant that. They have a confrence tourney where all of their teams get to play… If they want more in a tourney then they can do another confrence tournament…

Are you freakin kidding me??? What publications are they reading???

Well, the News & Observer is trying to do their part…

Leonard Hamilton still can't believe it.

The NCAA Tournament field included only four Atlantic Coast Conference basketball teams in 2006 – the same number as the Missouri Valley Conference – and not Hamilton’s Florida State team that went 9-7 in the ACC.

That will change, the league’s coaches and players promised at their annual Operation Basketball gathering Sunday. The bigger ACC, in its second year as a 12-team superconference, will be better – at least if experience counts for anything.

I’m with Leonard. I can’t believe it either. Especially after the brutal OOC schedule they played. How can they play such power houses as Jacksonville, Alcorn St., UL-Monroe, Texas Southern, Bowling Green, Stetson and Campbell and not be recognized for their greatness?

And people actually have the nerve to act shocked at why we hate that conference so much.

I’m glad the Charlotte Observer is on top of this story. I was just thinking to myself how great it would have been for Florida State to have a shot at the National Title. Sure, they lost to Virginia Tech and Wake Forest by double digits at the end of the year and couldn’t win 20 games, but they’re in the ACC.

Stupid media. It’s all their fault.

Let’s play the NCAA tournament results game!

teams in the Sweet 16 ACC: 2 MVC: 2 CAA: 1

teams in the Elite 8 ACC: 0 CAA: 1

teams in the Final 4 ACC: 0 CAA: 1

coaches who should STFU ACC: 12 MVC: 0 CAA: 0

I can’t believe they actually said that! :lmao::wow::confused:
Does somebody need to call the waaambulence, ACC?:weep::rolleyes::tongue:
:hammer:

This thread should be a regular emoticon field day.

What’s the ACC? I don’t think I’ve ever read anything about it in the newspaper. They certainly don’t talk about them on ESPN. Ever.

NO DOUBT!

If anything, the tournament proved the selection committee to be correct…

(except for in Charlotte’s case… :naughty: )

Better tone it down, or you’re going to make Duke Vitale mad… :ticked:

Unfortunately, ACC is:
Always
Catches
Coverage

How did I miss this.

WOW! If that acc conference is that good, someone needs to contact the Observer and see if they will start printing some stuff about those teams. I mean, 4 bids… That conference must be amazingly good.

The theme of Sunday's ACC media day was that coaches believe the conference doesn't get enough NCAA Tournament bids because the media don't talk or write enough about how good the ACC is. So if Florida State or Maryland received an at-large bid instead of George Mason last season, do you believe they would have gone to the Final Four the way George Mason did? Didn't think so.

I’ll give Ken Tysiac some credit for the 2nd part of this paragraph.

Now… I know we are all lightheartedly joking about this, but I won’t be surprised if we see a blitz by the acc and certain other conferences to convince the public they should receive almost all of the post season bids. Everyone may want to tighten up their seat belts.

As a matter of fact, I expect this discussion to get revved up on packer’s show one day when all those “experts” start telling the world (well, part of the world… a 10 mile radius of it) about how unfair the acc was treated last year. Of course, I’ll never know when this discussion happens unless I read about it here.
