MELISSA MANWARE
Staff Writer A University City man died early Monday after he was shot during a robbery-attempt just a few feet from his apartment, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
The man, whose name had not released by mid-morning, was on his way to his apartment on Vinca Circle at about 1:18 a.m. when a gunman attempted to rob him.
Police said he tried to get away from the gunman and was shot in the torso. He was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died a few hours later. Police said the man, who lived in apartments across from the UNC Charlotte, was not a student there.
The gunman left in a silver, 4-door Mitsubishi Gallant with at least one other person inside, police said
