Pat Kelsey 2.0

Got his 20th win today. Yr 2. In Big South Final.

Took over horrid Randy Peele squad that won 12 games and 13 games prior yr

We need this guy here before he blows up.

Young and energetic as you will find. Making 175k

His guys leave everything on floor.

It agree. this seemed like a good fit 4 years ago and still seems like a good fit.

I concur

I wasn’t sold on him the first time, and probably still not. Maybe I wind up being way off. It comes from wanting to aim higher, but maybe that is unsubstantiated hubris based on where I think we are.

we could do worse

I wanted Kelsey 4 years ago… either Kelsey or the guy from Syracuse. Some Wake fans also wish they could have signed Kelsey as head coach 4 years ago when they got rid of Dino. We may have missed our window of opportunity (again) on this. Can we afford Kelsey now? How much of an increase will he want?

clt wardles.

4 yr ago he was in deep depression from losing Skip Prosser.

And not getting the Charlotte job…

Does he even qualify for the coaching job here? Will he do exactly as Judy dictates him to do? Is he willing to put a clause in his contract prohibiting technical fouls?

Prosser had been dead for almost 3 years at that point. I’m sure it was emotional for him, but I imagine by then he’d moved on. Especially being that he was actively searching for a HC job.

I’m pretty sure it hit him harder than you’d think. I remember hearing that he questioned coaching as a future because of how the death affected him. Glad he’s pulled himself out of the darkness.

And we have been been depressed ever since.

Glad he pulled through too.

If it was that bad then, then it makes sense how we passed.

I have a first class seat on the fire Major train, but I’m not sure I’m ready to board the hire Pat Kelsey train. It’s not like he had a stellar year at Winthrop in a terrible Big South. Finished 11-5 in conference play and has been pretty bad all other years.

I need to see more.

FWIW, this is his second season and they went 10-6 in league play.

Showing 10-6 regular season at Warren Nolan. So I guess he’s 13-6 in BS games if you throw in the tournament.

For the record, I like Kelsey. Would he have been the answer for us? I have no idea. Never understood why some felt the need to dismiss him as a coach because we didn’t hire him. Things seem to have worked out for him.

Year 2.[/quote]whatever. Doesn’t change my opinion on him.

Too early to judge. If he repeats and improves next year and Major still sucks, then sure, I’d be interested. If we’re looking for a coach this offseason, I’d pass.
