Do you think this was a good hire by Judy? Obviously time and results will only tell whether Judy screwed up again but for the “I told you so” fans more than anything, make your feelings known now and not after the fact.
Im an optimist by nature so I say it’s a good hire and I’m excited too see what Mark Price can do. I like that he was a former nba Allstar pg and has continued to teach nba players. Recruiting is his only question mark but i think the positives out weigh the negatives.
I have a few reservations and this could blow up in our face, but I think it is a solid move. Of course I didn’t think Major was a disaster when we hired him, just became obvious once the season started but right now I like it I like Price. We don’t have 4-5 years for him to get things rolling need this to happen fast.
Proven Winners don’t come to Charlotte. Everyone we would’ve hired would have been some sort of a gamble. Lots of coaches succeed at one school and fail at the next. If they have a long track record of success, they don’t come to Charlotte.
Coaches come to Charlotte to prove they can win. Hopefully Price does that here.
I do not like the hire. I could be completely wrong but I just don’t know. Who’s to say he’s a good X’s and O’s coach? Who’s to say he can handle kids and motivate them? Can he recruit? Only thing I’m confident of he can help our guys shoot better.
Again, he may turn out to be the greatest coach in our history but I just don’t have much to go on here. I guess we’ll see.
I’m excited. I think Price is gonna do a good job. Love the NBA connections he has, hopefully some Hornets will be rubbing shoulders with some 49ers. I imagine MKG will be visiting Price quite often.
I am ambivalent on this hire. On one hand, I am sure our recruiting and shooting percentage (especially free throws) will benefit with Price as our Head coach. On the other hand, I am uncertain on how he is with the X’s and O’s. Nonetheless, I wish him the best of luck and hope that we will return to the dance soon!
I like the hire. No coach we could hire would be a guaranteed success. Anyone with previous success as a coach, a name to make a splash, and connections with local recruits is already above our price range in the P5 conferences or is well on their way there. We were always going to have someone with a question mark in one of those areas.
Price has the name, can sell his brand to recruits parents and coaches, his recent NBA connections to recruits, and has experience coaching at all levels, including as HC in overseas pro leagues. He’s also a proven teacher of the sport. Any question marks that he has can be filled by the right assistant hires, and there lies his keys to success. As an optimist, I think he has the basketball and organizational intelligence to make the right hires.
About as sure fire as I think we could have gotten except for a Capel III hire, but looks like Arizona State had targeted him, elevating him above our pay scale.
In my mind his interview went something like this:
JR: We need a coach that can beat Davidson, can you do that?
MP: I can beat those b**ches like I own them, and I could still take Curry’s money any day of the week on the playground.
JR: Welcome to Niner Nation!
I guess with only Yes or No as the answers to this question, I will say yes. Do I think it is the best hire we could have made, my answer is no. I say that not because I don’t think Price has the knowledge, but just has not proven he can have success as a head coach at the college or pro level. There would be questions with any hire, and there are no guarantees with any. I just worry that with this being such a critical point for our program, this is such a high risk hire by Judy, but it could return big rewards.

If he answered that way he wouldnt get the job.
I imagine this …

MP: Yes mam I think we should be able to defeat them more times than not. But thinking …I can beat those b**ches like I own them, and I could still take Curry’s money any day of the week on the playground.

MP: what?
I don’t think we will hear Price say “free throws are something each player needs to work on their own”. Make Willie and Big Mike 70% free throw shooters and we would have been an NIT team this year.
I like the hire. No one is a sure thing but I feel better about Price than Major five years ago and at the time I thought Major was a good hire for us. To be successful Price will need to do a few things that we missed from Major:
Sell Charlotte basketball to the community. This gets fans in seats and local recruits.
Defense, defense, defense. 49ers would have been an NCAA team this year if we only played defense vs. being a national bottom feeder in this category.
I have full confidence that Price knows about 10X more Basketball than Moton. Price is 51 and has been involved with basketball at ever level at the highest level. His Dad was a Coach, he was a borderline HOF NBA PG which is a coach on the court. I guarantee he will be successful and he is the best hire we could have made other than Hurley and I’m not sure he’s not a better hire than Hurley.
All you people that keep questioning his coaching or lack there of just stop, you are just making yourselves look silly.
