Poll: Was extending Fearne as HC the right move?

Our season ends March 15.

Dishon on March 25:

NCAA rules: “While it is a violation to speak to a coach from a different school before entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, you are permitted to speak to student-athletes and alumni at any time to gain a better understanding of the prospective program. Communicating with another Division I school’s athletics staff prior to entering the Transfer Portal can jeopardize a student-athlete’s future eligibility at that school.”

Since grades and classes and apr seem to be forgotten in all this - are the kids even completing spring semester?

P 5 Players should be forced to take commitment pictures with over-sized checks with the NIL amount like lottery winners.

We need to go all in on the portal.

Just accept it and move on.

Look at states squad. Most of them portalled. Some more than once.

Some came out of Juco.

What sucks is we are not in a position to get a DJ Burns because the f’ing P5 come in and get em. Even though it would be a step up to come here from Winthrop players like him are good enough to just go straight to the P5.

Target #1. Igor

:eggplant: Dishon ! He quit on us before he even started, then we paid him to come back ?

In 1958 I would have loved to go to Ga. Tech and play for Bobby Dodd. (For several reasons, that didn’t happen!). But my point really is: those days are in the rearview mirror! School. Coach. Tradition. Loyalty. Yellow Jackets/Niners. It’s gone, guys!

We have to try but what NC State is doing right now is about 25% planned and 75% luck. Their coach was on the way out the door the week before the ACC tournament. You just have to hope you throw together the perfect combination of players that click and do it at the right time of year to do what they are doing. And then as a mid major you have to do it all over again next season.

Two former UNCW coaches in the sweet sixteen. Maybe we should ask for some pointers.

It certainly seemed like something happened. At the same time, we were over achieving based on expectations. Maybe we just came back to the mean.

I also don’t doubt some deals were known. But if any of the players quit because of that, they are getting very poor advice. Winning teh conference tournament and making it to the NCAA were still in grasp. They could have reaped bigger rewards if they had some success in the NCAA championship.

Felt more like they weren’t getting the touches they had in previous games. Could be the rest of team was bypassing them.

I suppose that’s possible. But Patterson and Graves better not show up in the portal if that’s the case.

Regardless of whether Fearne was the right move or not, our new WBB hire shows that the formula most of us have been BEGGING For for years, a successful coach from a lower level conference is neither impossible nor a foreign concept to Mike Hill. He just refuses to do that for the most important sport we have.

How is our coaching staff different today than it was under Sanchez? Is it possible we don’t have the right recruiters in place.

Were getting outclassed by teams from inferior conferences that can’t have anywhere close to the NIL money we do.

ETSU was aiming for around 200k in NIL our spend this year was 300k. And a chunk of that wasn’t on the floor for the second half.

The only recruiter we’re missing is "Benjamin " !

I don’t think Fearne is the problem
We have multiple mental lapses every game, missed wide open shots, players get to the rim and can’t finish and terrible free throw shooting !

We have no take over players and without G on they floor we are a very weak team.

FWIW, ETSU wasn’t playing 3rd game in as many days. Had an MTE in Johnson City this past weekend in which the Bucs played on Friday and Sunday.

Yes, I’m answering the poll question at the top

Yes, basketball isn’t that important anymore.

Yeah I like him. He’s got professional experience and I think the players do like his ability. If we can’t retain players each year, then I’d like to the retain the coach, especially if they’re good people.
