You guys can make all the excuses you want but itās still sorry that we canāt get more people out for games, regardless of the circumstances.
And my personal enjoyment of the game is not diminished by me worrying about the crowd because Iām there doing my part. But I would be embarrassed to bring a casual basketball fan as my guest to a game like last night in hopes of impressing him/her with the Halton atmosphere.
As for it being a church night, had we been playing Wake Forest at home last night, would there have only been a handful of people like last night? Of course not. It just comes down to a large number of fans who only care to show up when there is more incentive to be there.
Itās sad, sorry and inexcusable. Thatās just the way I feel about it but oh wellā¦not much I can do to get people to care more.
I think I sat in probably the most uneducated section of the student section. Guys where do I need to get my tickets at so that I'm not surrounded by girls talking about the players bodies and fratties wearing UNC hats?
My biggest complaint about the crowd last night was the student section yelling āYou Suckā after each letter of the N-I-N-E-R spell out cheer. What is that all about??? If you donāt like the cheer, or the cheerleaders for that matter, sit down and donāt interact with them. But to disgrace the dancers and cheerleaders like that is unacceptable. I would be embarrassed if this happened at a televised or at a well attended by visitors game. Please spare us this chant on Saturday.
One of the ugliest wins I have seen in a while. Definently the ugliest win of this early season. Thereās no question we will have to play much better against Alabama to win. The real story of last year was how the guys got up for big games, with wins over UL, Syracuse, and Cincy. I hope we perform much better Saturday.
I counted 2 bad shots taken by Plavich. He missed 3 that I felt were good shots and he was wide open. Thatās not bad in my opinion. However I felt pretty good about his performance. He even played defense really good for a few stretches. He actually was 2nd on the team in steals with 3.
Our inside passing was poor. Thats gotta improve and I hope Mitch will start to really work to drive and get the ball going inside. We struggled all night getting the ball to Withers and Iti.
Withers never looked in the game. He played decent defense and had two nice blocks. Wish he would have made his free throws. However, not sure if this has been pointed out, but at one point Lutz called a play and Withrs looked around at Lutz with a look of shock. He didnāt seem happy at all with the play call. I am not trying to make anything more out of it. It was just something that caught my attention.
Everyone else played fine I thought. Of course Leemire played well and was probably the player of the game in what was a really pathetic game to watch at times.

Alum,
Itās hard to see what this cheer looks like, because they sit behind us, but I know what their intent is, whether I like it or not.
Theyāre yelling (and pointing) You Suck to the other teamās bench. I think the dancers know this because the students arenāt looking at them, theyāre looking at the opposing bench.
If Iām wrong then I would definitely make a point next game, but I donāt *think I am.

Lefty. You have excuses for everything.....every year. Yeah, church was the reason for all the empty seats. What was I thinking? :violin:

Actually, I gave these āexcusesā.
Other than the normal:
-lack of student interest
-the average Joe Sports Fan not embracing the team
For this game:
-Loss to Rutgers
-UL lafayette
-Wed night - church night (Yes, this is actually a major factor. The Ath department hears about it all the time)
-ACC games
Yeah, I didnāt realize wed church was a factor until this year.
