I went to the Duke/Tech game yesterday and saw nothing in crunch time out of Duke. Sheyer hit a three with a hand in his face with ten seconds left. Terrible forced shot, but hey it went in.
Good basketball players can make a coach look great. Look at Cal.
I think Judy will at least interview a DII HC…that has been a pattern of her hires lately.
What about Ron Niekamp of Findlay. They won the DII National Championship going undefeated. They also won their conference 7 of the last 8 years. He has never had a losing season in 25 years as a coach, and has a 15-7 record in DII NCAA’s.
Some of the coaches in DII can flat out coach.
I’ve enjoyed reading this list, it’s very entertaining.
I have to ask why anyone would think we are going to hire a coach who has taken part in a prior scandal? I’m continuously finding names like Quinn Snyder. Why would we want to affiliate ourselves with that type of history? If we win people will just assume the worst. Don’t you realize that they’re programs were successful due in part to the closed doors unethical deals they were turning? There are plenty of talented coaches out there that are under the radar. My guess is we hire a no name or an assistant of a big program.
Why am I the only person talking about the staff at Wofford?
Mike Young is the head coach, and has taken that team to its first NCAA Appearence, has lost once this calender year. That is freakin impressive, then there is Assistant Mark Prosser, son of Skip Prosser, I don’t know how we would coach, but with that name we could sell the program to the city and recruits.
The only fired head coach I’d look at is…Billy Gillispie. Just because UK has expectations beyond our dreams doesn’t mean he couldn’t pull of a job at Charlotte like he did at Texas A&M.
This one is out of left field as well, but what about Larry Shyatt of Florida. He’s been named the top assistant coach in the nation for the last 2 years. I know things didn’t work out for him at Clemson, but he has pedigree from both Rick Barnes and Pitino/Donovan.
Roy Williams. I understand he’s been equoted as saying “HE DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT UNC”.
All of my “serious” choices have been mentioned, along with some I’m adamantly opposed to (Doh). I would love to get McCaffery, but I’m not sure if we can.
Can’t go wrong with giving either Butch Pierre or Dalonte Hill a chance.
Also, don’t forget Orlando Early, everybody loves this guy, had a tough year at ULM this year, so would not be a popular choice.
Nickelberry (sp?), did ok at Hampton in tough MEAC, recruited some big time players, but mostly ran Coach Lutz syle offense, so, not sure if he would be popular here.

The thing I don’t like about Butch Pierre is that he has no experience outside of the southeast.
Regardless about what Judy said, a Northeastern guy would benefit us much more than a southeastern guy.

Nickelberry’s comment after the game was that CP was not good enough to play college basketball. True story. Richard (the other Niner) and I were both stunned.
