Something isn’t quite adding up. There has to be something else for a person to go from VC to wanting to return to a faculty position. Also, may be returning? Skeptical.
Maybe it was a Chancellor decision all along.
Some people aren’t cut out to be managers or politicians, and that’s basically what a provost position is.

Bertone has been an administrator since 2007 and was Vice Provost of Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School at Ohio State, so management experience not the issue. Anyway, definitely a head scratcher.
Whatever it is I wish it was a recipe for handling basketball coaches
