Question: Can someone...

…who was at the game possibly explain how we were out rebounded? No snide remarks please (I’m pissed to). Looking at the stats that seems to be a huge turnaround from our mini win streak, controlly both ends of the boards.

Our players looked asleep for most of the game. On rebounding the ball would hit them in the hands and they wouldn’t come up with it. It was like our players weren’t expecting to see the ball or something. Thats how we got outrebounded.

I noticed that Curt would mistime rebounds very badly which allowed the other team to get easy putbacks or the ball go out of bounds off of Curt. Also, there in no communication down low, I noticed a few times when 2 of our own guys fought for a rebound that went out of bounds or to the other team. No one is aggresive anymore on rebounding.

Not to mention that Valpo did a tremendous job of crashing the boards on every shot. They really went after the ball, much like we did in the Davidson game. Quite simply: Valpo just played with more intensity than us and it reflected in rebounding, as well as the final score.

I looked at some of last year’s stats this morning and compared them to this season. A 5-4 record against 7-2 at this time last year. Here are some telling shooting stats.

2004 - 257-542 FGs, .474; 68-173 3-pt FGs, .393; 156-244 FTs, .639
2005 - 209-550 FGs, .380; 69-210 3-pt FGs; .329; 119-194 FTs, .613

And just as interesting:

37 more three point attempts and 50 less free throw attempts. Those two stats go hand-in-hand. It’s obvious that we’re not pounding the ball inside as much as we did last year and thus not drawing as many fouls.

We never drive the ball either. I can count on one hand the amount of times a guard drove the ball into the lane.
