We know Lutz and Watkins inherited decent teams. Major basically had a partially stocked cupboard. Mullins had a bare cupboard. If I am right, Mullins was 8-20 his first year the year after we went 5-20 from the Wissel debacle. In Mullinsāā second year, I think he went 16-14 which was a good improvement but nobody was screaming for his head like many are screaming for Majorās. Major hasnāt even had time to truly get all his own players in and run his system. Itās amazing the lack of patience. Iām not saying we havenāt stunk it up several times and that the coaching has been poor at times but Major is a first time head coach. Heās learning too. We knew this from the beginning with him. Should we be critical of him? Yes! Should he be fired? No! He hasnāt been on the job long enough in my opinion to make that call.

Sorry.
Me either. I think people forget that 3 of the top 8 players we have right now are true freshmen. One other (Mayfield) had 12 D1 shot attempts before this year. They are erratic and frustrating, but Iām optimistic it will get better. If we had to rely on Basden to start and lead the team his freshman year, he would have struggled too.

You will be writing a check, though.
IMO X or Temple or the trio of Ark, Memphis and Miami. All of those would be quality in my mind. I know we are rebuilding. Everyone, me included, got upset that we could beat a top program or top 25 and then lose to a crappy team. I guess the good news is we have pretty much beaten the bad teams. Just need some big wins to excite the fan base.
Pretty much, yesā¦Totally, no. ETSUā¦ugh :-[
Mullins 2nd season we went 18-14 and we knew we were going in the right direction.
I am not sure that we are improving & will be better next year or that we are on a downward spiral & will be worse next year. It is too soon for any of us to tell, certainly a 50/50 proposition at the moment & could go either way. There is no denying our program is at itās lowest point since the Wissell era (not making the A-10 tournament last year & struggling to make it this year). My opinion is that if things do not improve by the end of next year, we must move on & not wait too long to make a change as we did with Wissell.

Watching these teams over the past few years makes me truly appreciate how great Leemire was. I now realize he was pretty much soley responsible for us winning about half the games we won his last 2 years. He was money from the line and would not allow these type of loses to occur. I sure hope Lester turns our to be that type of player because I donāt see anyone else on the roster capable.
Agree 100%. Leemire was money. Put the ball in his hands and get out of the way. More than a few wins he willed us to in spite of his size. When Deuce got here I was really hoping heād be another Leemire.
Iām hoping one of our guys develop into a clutch/go to guy.

At the end of next season he and Wissel will have coached the same number of seasons.

we donāt really have scorer. Period. This, to me, is far and away our biggest problem. We are 20 shots going in from being 18-7 right now. No one except temple has blown us out (not counting Lamar). We simply have not had a guy who can put the ball in the basket since Leemire.

When itās you, itās always a lot. #easonmoney
With one open scholarship left (Lukaās) and the always possible transfer situation, I like that our staff wrapped up next yearās recruiting class in the early signing period so that they can be ready to get out there and make a move. This seems like the first time I can remember when we were not waiting until post season to try and sign players. This gives me some hope.
Letās look at Leemireās stats his freshman season.
FG% = 34.9%
3P% = 34.8%
FT % = 67.7%
Reb/g = 1.9
A/g = 1.3
S/g = .8
T/g = 1.1
Pts/g = 6.2
Now his senior season
FG% = 37.3%
3P% = 34.5%
FT % = 80.8%
Reb/g = 4.4
A/g = 1.7
S/g = 2.1
T/g = 2.4
Pts/g = 18.6
You have to let these freshmen grow into stars a bit before you make judgement. His FT % went up 10% between his freshman and sophomore seasons.

i love it!!!
We are not a good team right now.I used to look forward to gameday with nervous excitement. Now I approach each game as if iām getting a tetanus shot.We are painful to watch, with no leadership and very little fire.
Maybe next year will be betterā¦Or the year after that.

I am sure it did. I was spoiled with one year of Mullins, two tears of Watkins and a year of Bobby.
Hopefully next year, as with Wissell, will be the telling year. Either win or get out. Have to expect 18-20 wins.
I noticed sokool is missing from this thread.
