Schools Fined $25,000 for Fans Using Cowbells and Rushing the Field

Maybe this belongs in a different forum, but I know we have some cowbell-ringing fans and some Field-Rushers. Mississippi State was fined $25,000 because their fans used COWBELLS and Ole Miss was fined $25,000 For RUSHING THE FIELD. Auburn and Missouri were fined $5000 for rushing the field. I can understand the cowbells, but being fined for rushing the field seems pretty ridiculous to me.

What is next? Not letting fans bang on their chairbacks to create extra noise?

At least we can still play lawn darts at my tailgate.

It appears that those in charge fear the reaper. #morecowbell

Article says cowbells are allowed, but must be rung only at “approved” times. I have no idea what that means. After a touchdown?
Doesn’t matter if there is a fine involved, certain games are going to end with a field rush. Cheaper to pay the fine than hire 50,000 extra security guards.

I think we need more cowbells at our baseball games.

During the Pembroke game this year there was an old UNCP fan with a cowbell right behind me and it was quite annoying. I want to thank whichever person sold their FSL tickets to that lady…

Rushing fields and courts is a safety issue for everyone involved. I have done it before, but I do feel that it is inappropriate now based on the history of fan violence around the world. Just better to keep everyone in the stands.

Don’t even get me started about her. I was NEXT to her the entire game. First woman I ever wanted to punch. I actually went through a risk/benefit analysis of doing so.

Hold on just a minute now. That’s just crazy talk!

They can only be rung between plays… if State is getting fined, it’s for folks ringing it during a play.

Better than our draconian policy on this. I don’t remember which game it was this year, but a few kids in my section ended up getting their hands on some thundersticks… I’m not sure if they brought them or they were given away. Security came through our section taking them away from every kid in the section. It was pretty ridiculous.

I think not ringing them during play is more than reasonable. A few of us have used them at The Hayes after a big hit or a run is scored. No big deal. We’ve not had any problems. The A-10 didn’t want any noise makers (or fans for that matter) at the tournament in May. The staff asked us ahead of time not to bring them, so we didn’t.

I saw the ushers taking thunder sticks from children during football. That seems a bit harsh to me.

Really? Gee, I never noticed.

The good news is that you’d have to be there to notice.

I was there… but you know that. So, that brings up the question… Who was not there to notice? (am I on the right track here?)

I heard that the site of our baseball stadium used to be a cow pasture. We need more cowbell.

I’m all for getting more fans and more atmosphere into The Hayes. It would be great if you weren’t able to hear a cowbell ringing inside the park.

Agree… and I’m thinking our new conference will increase attendance some. I’d like to see seating capacity increased and all the seats full for some/most games.

Has baseball had any TV games? Honestly I’m more likely to watch on TV than go. I do need to make it out there though. Been to less than 5 games prob.

No TV games to date. However, C-USA does televise baseball games, so that may come to pass. It would also be nice if WCCB needs some Saturday afternoon programming this Spring. Just a thought…

I guess we’ve hijacked this thread at this point. ;D
