Short lived tv shows

For no reason at all, I was thinking about tv shows that only lasted a short period of time, but that I really liked. They went off the air for whatever reason, but I really enjoyed them and wish they would have continued the series. Anyways here is my list and obviously I’m trying to start a discussion on here, so if you can think of a few that you liked, talk about them.

Over There- FX Iraq war drama from 2005. It only lasted one season. I’m not sure why it went off the air, but I really liked it. FX has hit some home runs with their 10pm dramas, so I was really puzzled that this one didn’t come back.

Quintuplets- July 2004-January 2005. Andy Richter summer sitcom. He’s tried a bunch of them, and I thought this one was pretty good. A couple of standouts to me on this show were Ryan Pinkston who played the runt quintuplet and Johnny K. Lewis who was on the first two seasons of Sons of Anarchy. It probably wasn’t that great of a show and the rest of the cast wasn’t that great, but I enjoyed it.

Arrested Development- Still can’t understand why the show only lasted 2 and a half seasons. It was spectacular.

Freaks and Geeks- Really can’t understand why this show only got one season. Incredible cast of today’s a-listers (Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jason Segel) along with being produced by Judd Apatow. Started the careers of all those guys.

Undeclared- Pretty much the same thing as Freaks and Geeks, had Seth Rogen on it, Judd Apatow produced it and everything. Only lasted one season on Fox.

My Name is Earl- Show was freaking hilarious. I guess the ratings just declined.

Chapelle’s Show- Maybe the funniest show ever, it’s demise was unfortunate.

I just want to also mention Family Guy. Fox really F’d around with this show for a while until finally bringing it back. I mean, it’s been going strong for five years now, but I don’t think any show was ever cancelled and restarted as many times.

I can’t believe David Chapelle walked out on a $50 mil contract. Also sucks Mind of Mencia isn’t around anymore.

I don’t know why FX pulled the plug on Over There.

CBS had a show about futuristic lawyer cases in 30-40 years that didn’t last long.

Drive for Fox was cancelled with 2 shows unaired.

CBS had a Fbi lady with a Dr. that only lasted 2-3 years.

Abc had a anti-terrorist show with one of the blonde chics from Melrose Place that didn’t last too long.

Dark Angel on Fox only lasted 2 years.

Flash Gordon & Painkiller Jane only lasted 1 year on Syfy.

I’ve never took issue with anything you’ve ever said SCK. But you just crossed a line:

“Also sucks Mind of Mencia isn’t around anymore.”

What?!

My name is Earl was on for like 5 seasons.

Shows that died to early include Veronica Mars, Threshold, Firefly, Flash Forward, The Dollhouse

Veronica Mars is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. But I think they were pandering too hard to get viewers near the end. So, the 4th season probably wouldn’t have been that great. I did love Season 1 and I really liked Season 3 though.

Seriously. I hate that guy.

Awesome. Loved those shows. Did you watch the FireFly Movie, I think it was called Serenity?

Also a great show: Jericho. It picks up right after a nuclear attack on the US. Its a mind blowing show that really does a great job conveying the fears of the characters etc. Unfortunately towards the second season they ‘killed’ the show, but atleast gave us a season finale which concluded the series somewhat.

Def a great show, check it out on Netflix if you haven’t seen it already.

How does anyone hate Carlos Mencia? You must also hate to laugh.

It’s pretty well known he stole a lot of his material from other comics.

So basically, anything with a nice set of tits you watch?

I do miss Chapelle Show (have the 1st 2 seasons on DVD), but I understand why he walked.

Andy Richter Controls the Universe: His first and best show, look into it online if you ever get a chance, there are about 20 episodes, all hilarious.

The Office: Started in 2005 through 2007, then they replaced it with what appears to be the same show at first glance, but is just crap.

Flight of the Conchords: Only lasted 2 seasons, but the Conchords opted not to do a 3rd because it was harder for them to write situational songs.

Arrested Development holds a place in my heart forever and always.

Heroes - They had a good series and just screwed up the writing as the seasons progressed. After the 1st season, there were only so many tangents you can put into a show.

Totally agree.

I don’t watch a ton of shows before they get noticed, but for some reason I really liked the show “Keen Eddie” on Fox about an american detective working in London. Sometimes it was a little too flashy for its own good, but usually the story was entertaining. I think it didn’t even last a full season.

Arrested Development was great, though I didn’t actually see it while it was on (Netflix).

It’s a little strange to me that The Wire never got higher ratings, though being on HBO meant it lasted for 5 seasons instead of 2 or 3. Probably my favorite t.v. show of all time.

“The Tick” was another one I liked, though the cartoon was much better than the live-action version (cartoon lasted 2 seasons, live-action less than one season). I always will wonder if the cartoon would’ve made it longer had Adult Swim on Cartoon Network been around back then (as evidenced by the success of Venture Bros). Having that cartoon on the Saturday morning kids rotation was kind of ridiculous.

I friggin loved that show. Also the Tracy Morgan show had funny parts as well.

In a side note, Carlos Mencia is absolutely terrible. STOP YELLING, YOUR NOT FUNNY…

The Wire - Great show, should have gone much longer.

Fastlane - Pretty sure it was good, but been a long time (I just remember liking it at the time). Production costs were crazy and I believe that’s what did the show in.

Sifl & Olly - No one has ever heard of this show. First season or 2 were great. Def somewhat of an acquired taste tho.

Sifl & Olly was great

Has anyone brought up Greg the Bunny? It was aight.

One good season. One barely watchable season. Total crap thereafter. Shame it didn’t have better writers.

Great show, but it was on five seasons. Not sure you can put it here.

The reason I included Earl is because it was cancelled so abruptly. I mean the last episode was a “too be continued.”
