Portugal manager not holding back. I like(d) CR7, but this is amazing to read.

It’s what Portugal needed, someone to tell CR7 “No.” It’s just like Ronaldo to leave after not getting his way. Professional thing to have done was to stay in camp and support his teammates, but that’s never been his style, for club nor country. I do believe he should get a proper send off, but not sure if his ego will allow it.

Geez just relegate them. They will be back up the following year. Send a message.

Watching that match, it was easy to see why Poch made the change to the young players:
It’s their work rate.
We were able to bring consistent pressure the entire match and it completely changed how we were able to dictate the game. And then not only was Sullivan’s goal directly due to his individual pressure, we almost got to or actually touched several other balls at the feet of their GK or back line when they tried to play them up. It was only a matter of time before we got a goal like Sullivan’s.
Tillman’s goal was another example:

Earlier he challenged another ball when the defender was trying to play it up and it just barely rolled up his foot a little too much to fully control, so it spun out of bounds (bang bang play - I slowed the replay down). If he gets that ball under control it’s likely another goal. All due to our pressure / work rate. We did that all match long.
This is an exciting cycle for the USMNT. Poch is clearly establishing a culture that we are coming after opponents, and we will be scoring goals. Very alpha approach. It’s going to be fun to watch.

Yeah it’s an older meme but it still checks out.
Great night for soccer fans - head over to the Gabe at 6pm to watch the Niner men grab a W over Mercer and then head home and catch the USMNT at 8pm.

A lot of guys getting a chance that either haven’t played or have barely played.

Canada is playing dirty as hell. Constant fouling often with what looks like an intent to injure.

Canada kept it dirty to the end. But we beat’em anyway.
