Sonics to OKC?

I figured the Hornets would end up in Oklahoma City on a permanent basis, but looks like George Shinn has some “competition” from the Sonics owner on such a move!

ESPN.com: Sonics file notice of intent to move SuperSonics

I wish Hornets never left Charlotte I because I like the old teal and purple much better than the current team in town wearing orange and blue.

I hate to see the Sonics move from there. NBA can’t be happy because thats a great market to give up on. On the other hand, it just doesn’t make sense for the local and state governments to bend over backwards for them. There was a last ditch effort by a local casino operating tribe to build a new arena (a significant ways out of town) but that probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I went to many games at Key Arena and loved the location (nearby the needle) but that place cant pull in the revenue w/o amenities like Safeco Field and Qwest Stadium.

Who the hell would want to go to Oklahoma?

I’ve met 2 girls from oklahoma…lets put it this way. I like oklahoma girls.

I hate to see any team leave the town they are currently in. However, Oklahoma City proved last year that they were ready for an NBA franchise.

The bottom line for the NBA is, how many cities can they afford to have? They are not going to allow a city like Seattle to remain without a team for long, it’s too big and dedicated to its team throughout the years. They also want to expand into a European division. The talent pool isn’t big enough to support how large they’d like to get, I think. The next 10 years could be interesting for the NBA.

Bobcats to Seattle ??

that would cause a big stink with the arena contract but maybe we could lure the hurricanes from raleigh.

No NBA teams are going to Seattle until a new arena is built. Sonics have good support just don’t have a place to play that generates funds.
