So Cap America was very good. I enjoyed it and Chris Evans IS Captain. He owns this role the same way the other Marvel stars do. Really could have been billed as a Black Widow/Captain film. Her role here is very big and critical. I liked the story and the way the film ended. Seems as though it will have an impact through out the Marvel universe. Will be interesting to see where things go on the TV show and how the next Avengers movie works. The first 2/3 of the movie did feel like a 70s era conspiracy kinda thing and then it became pretty much a big action movie with some huge set pieces. My wife walked out saying I think that was the most violent Marvel we have seen yet.

I haven’t seen an episode of Agents of SHIELD. Should I have? Is it important to the film?

I had not seen any of them either. It did not impact my appreciation of the movie. I am sure if I had I would have picked up on some things they dropped, but after seeing the movie I do want to tune into the show now for sure. Well played Marvel… well played.

I saw Capt. America this past weekend. Awesome flick. I’d give it an A, and probably only put it behind Avengers and the first Iron Man (largely because it is what kick started this whole thing and came out of left field), but not far behind at all.

Lots of Easter eggs in this movie, one which has to do with the mid-credits scene that if Marvel walks the line the wrong way with I will be pretty disappointed.

There are like a few MINOR things that you can piece together, but for the most part, it will not effect the understanding of the plot at all, just a little tidbit that’s more like a reward for watching the series. Sidwell (Shield agent) is in both, and it gives you kind of an “uh huh” moment with how things play out. On the other hand, the last couple episodes of the season are supposed to tie into the movie.

I agree

The first half of the season was nearly unwatchable for me. I just couldnt keep up with it.

The movie will shed light on why the early episodes were the way they were.

The first episodes were rough. It also didn’t help that it was marketed non-stop and billed as essentially being the Avengers’ side kick. A TV show just cannot do that for a number of reasons. They took their time fleshing out details, characters, comradry, and it took a little longer than I liked, but it’s paying off better now. To be honest, apparently a bunch of Joss Whedon-esque shows are the same way. Buffy and others were so much narrative to start with bits of action (Buffy did have a movie before it however) and then they started doing splashy things. I think that’s kind of how this has worked. Once Thor 2 came out, they were able to piggy back off of that, and now the same with Capt. America. They’ll likely come back in the fall and piggy back off of somethings that occurred in Guardians of the Galaxy, and then pick back up in the Spring leading up to the Avengers 2 movie. If they do it right, the way they can tie in to 2 movies a year and then the 1 major tent pole movie, they’ll have an awesome thing going. Eventually, they’ll have the ability to tie in to the Netflix series (Daredevil/Luke Cage/Iron Fist/Jessica Jones)

The show got a lot better, it took about ten episodes to be worthwhile.

June 6th - Emily Blunt. Got it!

Also, please don’t see Transformers or Expendables. Then maybe the studios will start spending money elsewhere.

Knocked out summer movie #2 with X-Men yesterday. I really really really enjoyed the movie. As with any time travel story you can get lost down a rabbit hole or make your head hurt if you think about timelines, but it did a good job I thought of keeping the story compact and moving. I only had a few issues with the film and walked out thinking it was an excellent movie. Just wish Quicksilver had played a bigger role. Looks like Singer has righted the X-Men world after the disaster that was X3.

I would def rank this one up with X1 and X2.

A million Ways to Die in the West looks pretty good and might be the next theater movie. I f not that then looks like nothing until either transformers or jupiter ascending. Guardians of the Galaxy though just keeps looking better and better.

In other comic book related news - Edgar Wright has left the Ant-Man movie over creative differences. Word is Disney execs started messing with the script. That pretty much sucks. Kevin Fegie and Wright were said to be very much on the same page, so if this is indeed Disney getting in the way it could be a bad sign of things to come with both Marvel and Star Wars.

Saw Xmen on Friday and really enjoyed it, I also would put it up there with X2(Which I think is the best) I thought they handled the time travel element very well and really liked alot of the historical references tying it all into the Xmen universe.

I thought they did a good job introducing Quicksilver and it will be interesting comparing the Xmen Quicksilver to the Avengers Quicksilver. The Sentinals of the future are totally badass, I thought as badass as anything I have seen since T2.

Saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier Saturday before last. I only try to go to the theater for graphics intensive movies. Saw it in 3-D of course. I enjoyed it but I thought the first CA movie was a little better and the last Thor movie was on par with this one. The Avengers has been the best of the last few years with these story lines from Marvel.

Story: B+
3D: B-
Overall: B

This Saturday was Godzilla. I think it was a good reboot on the series and definitely better that the early 2000’s attempt at a Godzilla reboot. Story was decent. FX’s were good but the 3D seemed lackluster to me. I’d recommend going to an IMAX for this one over just plain 3D.

Sunday was X-Men. I liked The Wolverine better but I’m also a Japanophile so I could be a little biased. It was on par with First Class and the story is pretty good, but again I thought the 3D was lackluster. Perhaps I’m just getting too used to seeing 3D movies.

On a side note, I really don’t go to the movies that much anymore with TV’s so much better, access to so many more movies as well as having kids. I love Xmen though and have seen all the others in the theater so I worked it out to go Friday night by myself, saw it in 3D, bought a Med. Drink and Med Popcorn, Grand total for me to go to the movies: $26 F’ing Dollars. Needless to say I will probably not be going back soon.

I gave up on 3D. Too much $ for too little in return.

ugh, I hope this isn’t the case.

Why didnt you stock the murse? Everytime I see the popcorn, candy and drink prices I cringe.

Saw spider man on the opening weekend. Pretty good, really liked the special effects. Not huge into these type movies but thought the guy girl acting was better than the last spider man I saw. Don’t remember the guys name but came across too much as a wuss.

Neighbors: I was disappointed. Dumber humor than usual. Some funny parts but a lot of forced humor. You won’t miss much waiting until red box.
