The ACC Observer

Picked up a Charlotte paper this morning after dropping my daughter off at dance class. Sat down for breakfast and lo and behold what do I see? Damn near the entire sports page devoted to ACC basketball.

You know, I don’t know why a give a rip and in the grand scheme of things I really don’t. But I think it’s humorous that Persinger will come on here and give reasons for the bloated coverage the Little O gives the ACC.

I’m not sure they could lick their boots any more, but I continue to be proven wrong.

I guess I look at it all wrong, but I think it’s incredible that a paper 3 hrs away has such a love affair with out of town schools. I suppose it would take guts to establish your own identity.

It’s fine that the Observer covers the ACC especially with the tournament being in Charlotte in a month or so. But I live in Raleigh and in the N&O here there isn’t a single story on UNC Charlotte, or even Charlotte. So I look the the Charlotte Observer to stay current on 49ER athletics etc. When will they recognize the similarities in their name"Charlotte" with the University’s should provide some since of loyalty. Certainly if you were visiting Memphis, Louisville or Cincinnati you would find that their “home town papers” cover the local universities 1st and offer no excuses.

I’m just surprised Over40 could get out of bed and read the newspaper on a Saturday before noon.

It was an odd-numbered Friday night. That means BBD was at jcl’s last night.

All you few remaining Observer subscribers should call circulation and cancel. Tell them it’s due to Mary Schulken’s comments. Blaming Mike P and the Sports Department is yesterday’s excuse.

LIAR. You guys need to introduce me to this Mary person and I'll sit on her and put her in her place.

I can’t help with the ACC favortism. You get better coverage but you are still second fiddle to those teams hundreds of miles away. The Observer tells you this is because you don’t have football and then they try to prevent you from getting football.

they are just trying to sell papers, i mean look how well it is working for them:

$25 per share 6 months ago to $10 per share today. Nice.

clt says that if he actually subscribed to the observer, today would be the last day of that subscription.

Sweetheart, you pull that one off and we can guarantee you’ll achieve something you never could at UNC Asheville… homecoming queen!

I just got a good tip. Buy Observer stock. A friend of my cousin says they are going to put paper racks in front of every Walmart.

Why, will it be a better deal per square foot than toilet paper?

If you could do that I’ll personally chauffeur you and an escort of your choice (HP, Over, Jcl . . .) for a night on the town and a restaurant of your choice. :shades:

They would need to target the market where they locate at i.e. selling the paper in durham area.

You forgot one crucial thing. The toothless, trailer park Walmart kan’t reed.

I could actually understand printing this story if ACC basketball was coming to town for the 1st time or if there was a need to generate interest towards ticket sales.

But since I know neither of those are true, this story was an attempt by the Observer to cater to the dumbass WalMart fans and rub that damn tournament in the face of every sports fan who smart enough to know there is more to the sports world than the _ _ _ damn ACC.

THANK GOD I learned long ago to not pay the Observer for their crappy paper.

Of course that explains why they added this:

I just read Mr. Fowler’s garage piece …

like a typical ACC fan, he planned to leave Craphole Hill early. Of course, the score of the game convinced him to stick around so he could arrive late to Duke vs. CLemson and he arrived at halftime of Miami vs. NCSU.

In spite of being a Niners alum, I tried to read Mr. Fowler’s piece objectively. The following is a summary of what I learned, thanks to this “fine” piece of journalism:

Some fan at Duke can wave a towel over his head.
A player on the bench at UNC-CH likes to dance.

Hopefully, someone can explain to me why this needed to be in the Charlotte, NC sports page.

Yep, but surprised these would get in that slideshow.
