To fire or not to fire? That is the question. Tom’s take later tonight on charlotte.com.
Without knowing what he is going to say, it would be extremely rare for a columnist to write an article saying that someone with Lutz’ character should be fired (whether his recent job performance has warranted it or not). Especially knowing how much Sorenson hates 49er fans, and loves to call us whiners. He will probably use this as another opportunity to work this into an article.

I seriously doubt he says to fire Lutz.

I have no doubt this article will contain no factual basis, only smart whit comments which is sorenson’s strong point. He won’t talk about how if Jerrell Lewis didn’t redshirt we wouldnt have a single Soph on the team due to an large influx of juco’s. He won’t talk about how we didn’t just lose this year, we got flat out embarassed. He’ll throw in some stuff about how the move to the a10 hurt recruiting, yet 8 other teams in the a10 seem to be doing better than us.
He’ll talk about how our class next year is strong yet, there should be 2 guys on that list that just disappeared, one did twice, 2 of the guys were ruled academically inelligible last season, other than a 2 star project with a “wingspan” we don’t have anything to back up Phil (who we still aren’t fully trusting he’ll be here). I bet he mentions nothing of how Davidson and Winthrop fall under the same ACC/SEC blanket and do more with far less.
It will be a pity article, little old Charlote can’t do any better then Lutz and should be greatful for the years past while the past two have been an embarrassment.

He called for John Bunting to be fired at North Carolina, and Bunting is as class a guy as Lutz. He had character, just not gameday coaching skills. Also called for firing of Dom Capers as Panthers coach. Dom also a standup guy.

i didn’t follow the panthers as closely back when dom was coach… but anyone who didn’t think bunting should be fired wasn’t looking at the numbers. standup guy or not. that said, lutz is a fair bit away from the situation bunting was in. or at least thats my impression. and impressions are all that matter. i’ld as well be shocked if it was in favor of firing, altho I expect some interesting comment on if he has another year like this next year… (even knowing next year is somewhat of a rebuilding year) that sentiment might change.
I’m not saying either of them shouldn’t have been fired. Just pointing out that, contrary to the other poster’s view, Tom has called and could call for a high-character coach’s firing if the numbers justify it. Not saying he did, just that he has before.
so when is this thing gonna be done Mikey?

Bunting was a no brainer. He just plain out flat wasn’t getting it done. Capers was more of a tougher situation to call. I guess I should have said a high character guy who has had some success in the past. But, I will just have to see what he has to say later on.

BING-freakin-O
I was thinking the same and was gonna post that before I read yours first.

why doesn’t he call for our no good AD to be fired???
I definately agree with metro on that one…
I expect Mr. Sorensen will be telling us that even with Lutz we are still more important in North Carolina sports than the Carolina Hurricanes.

:lmao: Nice one.
Actually, I like Sorensen. I know he attacks us at times (and it is sometimes justified), but he seems to treat all schools (and pro franchises too) equal and attacks them all. It’ll be interesting to see what he has to say.

NOW that is BINGO
Maybe he should write an article on former Niner baseball stars, what they’re doing now, and how much they stay in touch with their former coaches AND Athletic Director.

Hmm, wonder if Metro would speak up if they asked him anything?
I don’t care what Tom thinks but if it’s a FIRE HIM article, I’d hope it wouldn’t run on the day of the 1st tournament game. Pretty damn embarrassing and insulting if your hometown paper would do that. At least wait until the season is over.
