The Drag Strip

Judy mentioned in the excellent interview by JFelt, that they visited the drag strip as part of their planning for football. She said we will be looking at building something very similar, with a large numbers of seats on one side, a few seats on the other side, and a buliding/ field house in one of the end zones. It is also expandable. It cost them $60 mill.

I just wanted to throw out some info on the drag strip. I’m sure it will spark some interesting conversation.

The track will feature a 34,000-square-foot starting-line tower with 16 luxury suites and 4,000 square-feet of roof access for guests.

Plans detail two grandstand structures, one on each side of the quarter-mile drag strip, with a seating capacity of 30,000 and room for expansion to 60,000. The primary grandstand will feature premium flip-down seating as well as bench seats with backs. Tunnels will connect the grandstands underneath the strip. Luxury suites with hospitality accommodations will be located above the main grandstand.

Sweet, I like it. Thanks for the post.

A tunnel connecting the two sides of the stadium that goes under the stadium is EXACTLY what we’ll need! They could even line the tuneel with flat-screens so you don’t miss the game or any announcements while you’re underneath all the action…

Seems like a bit much for ANYTHING other than an aquarium (cuz anythings cool when you throw in sharks).

Compliments of Hooner

I don’t know if any of you have actually BEEN to the strip yet, but it’s really, REALLY nice. I went down a couple weeks ago for the NHRA event. Whoever they got to build that thing did a fantastic job.

I just do not like the idea of building the football stadium with one side larger than the other. We need to make it symmetrical.

I would say at least 90% of stadiums aren't symmetrical. I would like to see the opposite sides be closer than at the dragstrip.

IMO, build it big on one side and small on the other. Makes the stadium look bigger that way. I think it would be cool to build about a 4,000 seat grandstand and let the students have it. Imagine how crazy that place would be… put them right on top of the visiting bench and let them have at it!

we should go with whoever built the dragstrip. They had that thing up and running in approximately a year. Amazing.

From Zmax website
"4,350 premium flip-down stadium seats make up the top 10 rows of John Force Grandstand. The remaining rows consist of 20-inch-wide bench seats with back."

Sounds like we could use those for the 5,000 FSL’s

It will be symmetrical once we expand it.

Best. Idea. EVER! And I say we throw in the sharks for fun!

Big on one side and small on the other looks like a high school stadium. Symetrical is the way to go.

As usual…Spease has his thinking cap on. Had he not thought of this the cost is 80m if i remember right from that firm who quoted us that builds billion dollar stadiums

Agreed 100%. One big side and one small side looks extremely small-time. Symetrical, even if it isn’t a huge stadium, looks wayyyy better.

Also, i know for a fact we have an alum who builds minor leafue ballparks. He did knights castle and the norfolk tides stadium. He was my golf partner in the alum golf 3 yrs ago. Pretty sure its Simon & Watson

100% Agreed

We could have sharks on our jerseys too.

We could have sharks on our jerseys too.

As long as they’re Black Tipped Sharks.

start out big on one side small on the other, but then when it comes time to expand you just expand the small side and eventually you could probably make it into a horseshoe or a bowl
