Can you imagine if piles of Duke or Carolina tickets were just left on quads and in SACs for the taking? Scalpers would be on them like bikers on a Spring Fling beer truck. They’d be howling in the streets with glee and gunfire would erupt before it was over.
And then there’s Charlotte. Two for one offers, 3000 bobbleheads, handing out tickets, leaving piles of tickets for the taking, and 2,500 tickets remain.
I would if only I could. I’m in CT and can’t even listen to the game because of a client meeting.
As a student, I never missed a game in seven years (Grad School, not the Bluto plan), including the Wisselball years with The Grom as our best option at Center.
Edit: I wish the team was half as good then as it is now.
Hey, if there are free tix laying out, grab me a few for Homecoming. I am planning on coming down and was making some calls today about getting some tix.
The ticket office printed about 500 tickets today to give out around campus. I would say about 50 went into After Hours…60 went to Chick-fil-a…80 went to Prospector Cafe.
The rest of the tickets were given out at the Belk Tower. I personally gave out over 180 within 1 hour of being there. By 2 in the afternoon approxmiately 300 tickets were given out to students.
Now the ticket office and marketing department have done their job of distributing tickets and getting them out to students. However that does not meen the people are going to show up. We can only give people tickets we cannot pick them up in a nice strech limo and force them to the game.
By the way the tickets we were giving out were Endzone seats and Sect 206. I find it humorous when people come up to me and ask for lower level the day before the game. I tell them sorry they were gone at 9:00 the day tickets went on sale.
Mein,
please stop comparing us to Duke of Carolina. Seriously, that is really annoying. I saw ONE at chick-fil-a around 1pm today. Guess those people are coming.
We do what we can here. If our students are too lazy to come get a ticket, we bring it to them. atleast we are getting more people to come to games. You worry about the Niner fans in CT, we are doing things to get people to games here.
I hear Basden, Withers, Plavich, Baldwin and the rest are giving out ass-whipping for free tomorrow at 7:30. I’ll be there to watch. Bringing two buddies from A-town also, so there better be one good ticket left for me.
Doesn’t it seem a little counter productive to hand out tickets to the masses at the Belk tower? How many of those folks will show up? Half ??? Quarter???. Why not just give the students tickets when they come to the game? Are they not allowed to walk up and get them on game day? Seems like there will be a ton of no shows and if by some miracle we have given away all the tickets and people show up at the door we won’t have tickets to give/sell them. Seems odd.
That is the problem JK! NO STUDENTS HAVE BEEN COMING TO THE GAMES!!! Why should we hold a bunch of tickets for people that we dont know are coming? At least now when we give tickets out we know poeple have tickets to the game and its alot better than just rolling the dice hoping people show up at the door.
If you walk up to the door 15 minutes before the game starts without a ticket than I am sorry thats your own fault for not going out and getting a ticket in advance.
I dont think people realize how easy getting tickets are!
The year carolina was so bad I walked up and got a ticket easily outside the dean dome for the carolina - duke game. So even they do not support there team every game even for their most bitter rival. We need to do better but lets not act like carolina is perfect.

I'd better see section 206 full or I will be upset.

I want to see 4500 students in the building on a regular basis. If not, I want the Athletic Department to be able to sell 4700+ tickets on a regular basis. Damn it, the students have known for since I’ve been getting tickets (1976) that tickets were free, all you had to do is go pick them up. I don’t buy the excuses, the apathy on the campus is disgusting.
I’m not getting on to you students that post here or the ones that go to most of the games, but percentage wise, less student tickets are being given out now than they were in 1980.

I think the problem is that too many students THINK that they’re free. If more students realized that they’re NOT free, and in fact they already paid for the tickets at the beginning of the semester with their student fees, then perhaps more would come take advantage.

Embarrassing.
I just realized that… these people nerds need to get off their computers and get their arses to Halton to watch a good team… the perfect word is “embarrassing”.

Give the tickets to the RAs that sit at the front desks and sign people into the dorms at night.
So simple it just might work.
I actually like that idea. I was blessed my freshmen year with a great RA. He stressed us going to events on campus and furthermore going to Niners game was a given. I can remember on more then one occasion him dragging my butt out of bed to go get tickets at the ticket office early on. This was during the forgettable year of 2002-2003 when tickets in the lower level weren’t diffucult.
