Temple

John Chaney, rumored to be on the outs after a hectic 2005-06 season, still has appeal for a trio of recruits who gave verbals this week for next year. Combo Forward Mike Scott, PG Luis Guzman and PF Matt Shaw are slated to sign LOIs next month and become the next generation of Owls. Scott is an undersized PF who uses athleticism and hustle to make up for a lack of height and bulk and has fairly consistent shot that will be key developing as a wing. Guzman is your typical Temple PG, a great ballhandler, floor general and perimeter defender. Unlike previous Temple lead guards - Pepe Sanchez and Rick Brunson come to mind - Guzman is a fairly accurate shooter. Shaw is yet another SoCal big man who will flee the Golden State and travel east. He is a large body who will fill space, block out and has a few inside moves to boot.

In a preview to this week’s A-10 update on Friday, at least one national sportswriter is touting Temple’s Mardy Collins as the best collegiate PG in 2005-06 and another is showering praise on PF Steven Smith of LaSalle. And, as already posted, CHN named Withers to their 2005 All American team.
