Watching John Abraham disrupt nearly every pass play made me wonder why can’t Julius Peppers do this? I know a lot of excuses have been made about this (double teamed, etc.) but Abraham did what we have always wanted Peppers to do. 3 games into the year and he has no sacks. I don’t even remember seeing a lot of pressure from him.

Tony Boselli has to be the worst commentator I have ever heard. The guy was praising DeAngelo Hall as he was costing his team the game. Saying dumb things like if he was the coach that is the type of stuff he would teach him to do, he would tell him to keep it up, that’s what we want from you. The guy was a terrible commentator and painful to listen to.

Our return game needs improvement big time. Goings returning kicks and Robinson’s punt returns are minimal.

Abraham is nasty. Too bad he was only healthy for maybe 3 games last season. After having a career game in the opener last year in Charlotte, he was gimpy the rest of the season.
As a Falcons fan, I’ve already took a ribbing for the Hall ordeal. Hall should have shut up, but I have hard time believing that Steve Smith was not saying the same stuff. Spare me the “Hall is a thug” lecture. It started on the pass interference play, with Smith taunting him. It escalated from there. The refs chose to ignore Smith’s side of it. I’m sorry, but that was not a one-sided trash talking episode.
I just think its unfair that Julius Peppers has to count 8 Mississippis before he rushes the QB
Peppers gets held a lot, but he has zero fire.
When our pass rush is the same 4 guys with no variation, all game long (well until we get desperate late and perform a pathetic DB blitz), the blame is partially on Trgo & Fox.
Watching highlights of other teams getting after the passer yesterday was nauseasting. There was a time that this team would get a lead, pound the clock with the run, and force you to pass. Then they’d T off against your QB and work you down to your 3rd stringer. Harrington coulda had family over for tea in the pocket.

yeah Peppers gets held sometimes, along with every other DE in the league
he is either hurt, sick, or doesn’t give a rats ass. I also think he might of gained too much weight. He is not as sleek as he used to be.
I watched him exclusively much of yesterday and he would flat out quit if the O line stood him up. I am not a football expert at all, never played a down, but it looks like when we rush we are clogged up to close together… which may be by design to stop the run??
Atlanta does not have a good offensive line. Jacksonville had 6 1/2 sacks on them. If you’re not getting pressure on them, you’re not going to get pressure on anybody.
This line is not as good as it was in 2003. We need to blitz more, because the front 4 just can’t do get pressure by themselves. I noticed every time we did blitz yesterday, Harrington would be forced in to a short pass or an incompletion. When we just rushed 4 guys with 7 guys basically playing prevent, he’d just play pass and catch with his receivers. I swear it’s like our defensive strategy is to play Prevent the entire game.
Julius Peppers looked really bad yesterday. I mean, guys can have bad days and all… but he was getting completely SHUT DOWN by a nobody o-lineman; and it has essentially been like that all year so far. Yesterday, he’d get stopped and it looked like he’d just quit. Is Mike Rucker even on the field? Don’t hear much of anything from him, either. I was surprised Kemo had a sack, considering he isn’t known to be a pass rusher at all.
I’m glad we replaced Deke Cooper, though. That guy was terrible. Last week at the game, I’d just watch him the entire time… he pretty much didn’t do anything besides watch the game.
A win is a win, though.
From the PFT Rumor Mill:
POSTED 10:02 p.m. EDT, September 23, 2007POSTED 10:02 p.m. EDT, September 23, 2007
HALL BEAT UP IN FALCONS LOCKER ROOM?
There are uncorroborated rumors making the rounds that Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall was beat up, presumably by one or more teammates, following a Falcons loss that was fueled in part by Hall’s inability to control his emotions.
After being flagged for a total of 67 yards on a second-half drive that the Panthers used to tie the game, Hall got into a sideline confrontation with coach Bobby Petrino.
We don’t know for sure whether Hall was indeed roughed up or otherwise accosted by teammates after the game, but it wouldn’t surprise us to find out that the rumor is true. Hall is a brash and outspoken member of the organization, and his Virginia Tech ties to Mike Vick probably have prompted some in the locker room to view him differently in the wake of Vick’s legal troubles. Today’s actions would have potentially been enough to get a frustrated Falcon to convert hostile feelings toward Hall into action.
It’s the fact that we have started dropping Peppers into some zone packages because we have a rookie, 2nd year LB and Dan Morgan at LB and then our safeties are new to the system. It’s hard to get a pass rush when you’re rushing 3 or 4.
Peppers is playing without fire, Rucker is old and coming off an ACL tear, and Kemo has no pass rush. I can’t wait until McClover gets healthy. He practiced and played with fire in the preseason. I can’t figure out why Peppers is playing such lackadaisical football if he was on the verge of getting the richest defensive contract in NFL history. If he keeps this up his price is going to drop significantly.
I heard the Atlanta paper called DeAngelo Hall, MeAngelo.
Whatever the reasons are, I would like to start seeing some significant pressure on the quarterback.
The knock on Peppers at UNC was that he “took downs off.” He appears to be taking this season off. I have always been a fan of his on the field but felt wasn’t the friendliest person in the world. I remember him getting recognize at our basketball maddness one year and he wouldn’t even waive or acknowledge the crowd.
This season our defense just looks lost at times. We have a very inconsistant front 4. The offense for the most part is playing well. We still need a quality 2nd and 3rd reciever that is consistant! It was good to get a win yesterday and I am still not convinced that the NFC South is that strong so the Panthers could win this division without playing great. The biggest positive this early is Deshaun Foster’s play. Jake, for all those who dislike him, has played very well early.
I dealt with pep numerous times at the Autobell on Independence Blvd and 3rd street when i worked there.
He was always polite, always nice and always shy. The guy seriously had a hard time making eye contact and spoke very quietly. He tipped well and kept to himself, but I never got the impression that he was rude or unfriendly, just wary of drawing a lot of attention to himself.
Beat TB for 1st next week. We can’t lose to a team w/ the same initials as a disease. LOL.

thats a credit as well to the OL, who despite injuries again seem to be playing well. last week Dwill had a solid game if I remember correctly. but the line and foster’s play yesterday was encouraging for sure.

People like that often dislike the attention and it eventually gets to them so bad they lose the desire to play. That’s sort of what happened with Barry Sanders and it honestly wouldn’t shock me if Peppers ever decided that his heart just wasn’t in it anymore because he didn’t want to be in the spot light anymore. I hope that’s not the case, but Peppers seems like he could potentially have that kind of personality.

the o-line definitely deserves some praise, but Foster is a beast when he gets into the open field. You see very few people with a sense of balance as good as his. Walter Peyton had it. The man could flat out run over people and keep his balance to churn out more yards. Foster can’t seem to break tackles at the LOS, but once he gets moving he’s a hard man to bring down. If our O-line can consistently get him past the LOS, he could have a 1300+ yard year.

I think Deshaun is OK and all…but please don’t ever utter the word Walter Payton when describing him. He’s not even close.
Oh I’m not in any way saying he’s walter peyton, I’m just saying he has an incredible ability to bounce off of people and stay on his feet. He’ll never be what Walter Peyton was. Most runningbacks in today’s game either dance around and get dropped or accept that they’re going to get tackled and fall forward for a yard or two more. I like to see Foster use brute force to take a hit and stay on his feet.
Too bad we let go of al wallace, maybe now were seeing how it hurts. Our DT’s aren’t bad if not serviceable both jenkins and kemo got to the QB, although jenkins hurt himself. I would like to see more Moorhead in the game however. Both our DEs be it age or no fire or being held because the DTs are little threat. They hardly ever show Rucker but focusing on Pepper, he never had an explosive first step once, he never spun or swam past a blocker, sure he got held a few times but the one time he got after Harrington he batted the pass and nearly caught it. I think this having to be the leader thing seems to be taxing him, because the physical gifts are still there but the desire is not.
