Two early verbals

How long has it been since we have had two early verbals of quality recruits? It seemed like we were always trying to get some kid that did not work out and we were stuck with trying to grab somebody on a prayer in the spring.

Does anyone know if our coaches has a surprise recruit for the last spot or will we hold that one?

We signed KJ early, not sure if we signed anyone else early that year or not though.

Last year IIRC we had Thorne, Nickerson, and Williams by Halloween, with Nickerson the last to verbal.

This staff is getting it done in terms of getting the guys they are targeting. Now, let’s see what these players can do. It’s certainly promising. You have to like the core of talent we are putting together. Should really pay dividends as they develop some chemistry over time.

I believe we will hold that last scholarship for either a quality big, or else a guy we need to bulk up. Eitherthat, or to have one in pocket if there is a difference maker decommit or transfer. Always nice to have flexibility in that situation.

Love the targeted approach at talented kids that we can get.

Good to see last year didn’t hurt on the trail.

I hope they can find one more big guy, we could really use another player to develop alongside Clayton and Thorne to balance the roster. Then next year we could take best guy available with an aim to one perimeter, one post.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Awesome to see this kind of recruiting. Immensely more satisfying than the recruiting I saw from 04-09 - particularly the early part of that.

for the first time in a loooong time, i think we might actually have a coherent plan. major & co. apparently take into account such minor details as position needs, “cultural” direction, phasing, playing-style considerations (other than put-up-a-three), etc.
i know–it won’t all be in place next year either, but at least i can imagine i’ll live long enough to actually see it happen now! :o

Getting the guys you want is step 1. Coaching them and developing them is step 2. Winning is step 3.

I think step 1 is all but a lock. On to 2 and 3. No excuses, it’s entirely on them to coach these guys into winners.

Yeah. I think we are getting the guys necessary to compete in the A-10. It’s time to start developing them. Coach Major is proving himself as a recruiter. Time to turn them into studs.

I’m definitely encouraged.

I’m also encouraged at the fact that we have a positive basketball thread again.

GO NINERS!

Oh, I’m sure we can find some.

I’m sure we can find a way to turn it negative.

Yep.

Just glanced at this, wasn’t sure if it was basketball or football related. I like having that problem…

In one and a half recruiting classes Major has already brought in more four year players than Lutz since 2005. True or False?

and the one player lutz brought in was a two star point guard who transferred from ucf because he wasent getting enough playing time.

Lutz since 2005:

2005: Mitch Mullis
2006: Charles Dewhurst
2006: David Booker
2006: Ian Andersen
2006: Phil Jones
2007: An’Juan Wilderness
2007: Gaby Ngoundjo
2007: Javarris Barnett
2008: Shamwow Bowden
2009: Chris Braswell
2009: Gokhan Sirin
2009: KJ Sherrill
2010: Jarvis Davis (decommitted with Bobby leaving, thanks for the name correction skody)

Major:
2010: Luka Voncina
2011: Terrence Williams
2011: Pierria Henry
2011: Mike Thorne
2011: E Victor Nickerson
2012: Willie Clayton (verbal)
2012: Shawn Lester (verbal)

Going by the year they arrived on campus/attached with the program. Any misses?

I hope Major’s group has an average longer stay.

James Davis? Who was that? I recall a Jarvis Davis but I can’t remember if he was a JUCO or HSer.

I think NLP just got the name wrong Jarvis Davis was the Freshman that ended up at UCF.

Besides bigger, more athletic, and younger there is one more thing that differentiates Major recuits from those of the Lutz era–there are no apostrophes in their names. I think this will pay big dividends as we get into conference play.
