UAB football

The UAB Football programs status as all the makings of a John Grisham novel - you just can’t make some of this stuff up.

You are correct that it is purely symbolic as the UA BoT alone holds the power to fire Watts and they are the ones who orchestrated the whole thing. However, I have read that this could affect accreditation when SACS comes to town. Trouble with accreditation would rally the state and community that much more than already.

CUSA knows UAB won't be playing football in 2015 and is moving forward with a 13-team schedule for next season. Men's basketball schedules are created in late summer.

Also some attempt at payback coming:

Also Thursday, Alabama state Rep. Jack Williams called on the University of Alabama System to launch an independent investigation into allegations of interference involving UAB football by board member Finis St. John. The University of Alabama System oversees UAB, whose supporters believe board members killed the Blazers' football program.

If UAB decides to reinstitute football, C-USA officials say privately that the school most certainly will be allowed to remain in the league.

However, officials add that UAB won’t be allowed to remain without football. Having football and non-football schools in the same league was a policy C-USA abandoned more than a decade ago.

“We decided as a conference a long time ago to become an all-sports conference,” Banowsky told cbssports.com “We had teams that didn’t have football and we just decided back then that we preferred an all-sports model. That’s our current identity.”

Looks like we may know by the summer meetings whether UAB will remain in CUSA, and it looks like they must have football to stay.

God I hope they get this reversed.

You know if they get this reversed it may actually work out in their favor long term.

It could galvanize support for them and maybe they finally get an on campus stadium.

Stranger things have happened.

This is only because UA doesn’t field soccer I’m guessing.

Watch, if soccer gets super popular over the next 20 years they will take it from them.

Said they upgraded because the current facility doesn’t meet C-USA standards. :))

SEC doesn’t sponsor men’s soccer, which is why South Carolina and Kentucky are associate members of C-USA in that sport.

I watched that a lot longer than I expected too. Really impressed with the passion they show. I hope they are able to get their program back.

I found Jack Williams to be a very disappointing speaker. Im not even sure what the point of his portion of the presentation was about - trying to convince people who were already on his side?

Anyway, the passion of that group is great, and they are the victims of some dirty nasty old school politics. Here’s hoping they win.

UAB in a 30k OCS stadium is a nice dream.

They will become my 2nd favorite college football team if they can continue playing football.

Well, it had my full attention for an hour at least. I think eventually the numbers and truth will force some hands.
