I’d love to hear what those who ended uab’s football are thinking/saying about all these effort$ to reinstate the program. It would be a hoot, but they wouldn’t be frank. They’ll hedge/spin their opinions/feelings on this, if they speak out at all.

UAB will announce their decision on June 1st.

I wouldn’t make new facilities a requirement necessarily (although they’re sorely needed), but the conference needs to make sure there is something in place to prevent this from happening again 5 years down the road. We can’t let the UA BOT impact the conference.

I’ll take them back. We have history with them and they vouched for us when we were thinking fcs for awhile.

Conference USA commissioner says if UAB reverses decision on football, Blazers will thrive

I would love to take them back, simply for the basketball rivalry. Our 2 biggest historical rivals in CUSA-3 are probably UAB and ODU. Plus, they have much more name recognition than some other schools in CUSA.

guntotinglib 4 hours ago @profitofdoom23 We've seen what Carr's done with UAB. He also recommended USA start a non-scholarship DI-AA program and compete in the Pioneer League with other similar programs (the same USA who has been bowl eligible every year they've been DI-A) and he also recommended Georgia Southern NOT reinstate its football program (the same Georgia Southern who won the Sun Belt last year).

“The Birmingham City Council will continue to delay approval of normally routine permit requests from UAB until president Ray Watts meets with them, members agreed this evening.”

Justin Craft, the guy heading the group to bring football back, says they are very likely north of $20 million raised.

Ray Watts is going to end up becoming UAB’s Dick Spangler.

Dick didn’t actually stop football from happening, far from it. Watt’s will be viewed by UAB supporters as being closer to Hitler than Spangler.

I’ve heard from a couple individuals that the Sun Belt and MVC are the two main conferences being considered if football stays dead. I swear Ray Watts will get bricks through his window if we dropped football to join the Belt.

Yeah, but Spangler’s line about “that’s what NCSU and UNC are for” pretty much was the final straw.

I get you though - Watts is much, much worse. But he could also be the eventual (unintentional) catalyst for the change UAB has been wanting for decades.

All indications are that Watts will not re-instate football.

How could he reinstate it without everyone losing faith in his decision making? If he reinstates the program that means he made a bad decision and spent a lot of money researching information to make that bad decision. If he sticks to his guns, he pisses off a lot of people, but UAB will still be a successful institution. In my opinion, there really is no decision to make. Bringing back football will not change the football backers mind that he is a good leader.

Plan is to strip the undergrad programs from uab and just have it be a graduate extension of uat, so it may not still be a very successful UAB.

It really depends on which side of the fence you sit on as to the success of the University. I just don’t see how he can back down at this point and stay in power.
