UAB football

I suspect a change there is not far off. Watts got a vote of no support from the faculty, the students and alumni hate him, the City of Birmingham has marginalized him as the leader of the University, and the UA Board of Trustees cannot be happy with his failure to get the job done and eliminate UAB football as they instructed. Stay tuned for When Bad Things Happen to Bad People by Thanksgiving.

Guess we need to end this thread and create one entitled UAB Football is Back
So what happens with all the transfers?
I’d imagine they stay transferred.
Interesting situation. The NCAA could waive policies and allow the guys that left to return. Maybe they don’t want to, but the NCAA could make it easier on UAB.
that would hurt those institutions in which they landed. By the time UAB is ready to compete in FBS, those guys will be graduated.
Bingo. Although in their hearts they may want to go back to UAB, from a football perspective they are now more than likely in a better spot, especially the juniors/seniors.

A few morning after stories, it’s amazing that the UAB people were able to overcome everything and get football back. Watts though, I don’t see how he can endure much longer.

Ray Watts is one of the only people who could have dampened my excitement yesterday and he succeeded. That press conference was horribly pathetic.

He is a turd of the highest order - but congrats on winning your fight! We had a something like this happen with a UNC leader telling us we didn’t need football because Chapel Hill has a team - certainly not the degree of control you all are seeing from Bama - but it galvanized our push for football. Hopefull Watts will be out soon and this entire debacle has galvanized support for UAB.

From our side we are happy to keep you around. We don’t have many rivals that we have decades of history with and I was excited about that when we arrived back in CUSA. Look forwarding to beating you boys for years to come!

"They showed the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees that the old rules, the old ways, the old business as usual in which no one can question that board, is a thing of the past.
It is, in ways the old establishment still does not understand, a new world.

If enough people, with enough passion and energy and commitment and creativity come together for a cause, they can win. Even against the stodgiest, most insular and powerful board in Alabama."

It is pretty amazing how the Internet and social media enable underdogs to rise up and bypass traditional hurdles. The spirit that kept UAB football from dying is very similar to the spirit that brought Niner football to fruition.

About 23 years now.

Article on the rebuild, Lambert gives his take on it.

So is the UAB Chancellor worried the Rifle team is back too?

Excellent move by UAB.

UA BOT (same jerks behind the effort to shut them down) passes the following resolutions:

•Selling bonds to build a football operations facility and practice fields rather than waiting until all the money is in the bank, allowing the program to invest in brick and mortar rather than make do with duct tape and spackle.
•Encouraging UAB to enter a long-term lease with the BJCC and the city of Birmingham to play in a new multi-purpose stadium if it gets the green light, which may be coming soon.

Uab is going to come back stronger than ever.

They weren’t that strong to start.
