UAB football

Wonder where that money came from, they didn’t have it just 2 years ago. Glad they got it though, and very glad UAB football is coming back.

Proposed $174 Million, 45,000 seat stadium for UAB, to be funded by existing sales tax.

To any UAB lurkers, i get it. We have a tiny stadium. We all hate it here.

But…

That stadium is hideous. There’s 1 piece of creativity in it and it makes it lopsided on the long sides. There’s not even an attempt to mask the difference.

The rest of the stadium is sterile.

It looks like a tennis venue

It is way better than the ugly dinosaur of a stadium they play in now. I hope it works out for them.

At least they have a vision and goals. We will still have the same facilities 10 years from now.

I think it’s pretty cool. It’s huge for them to be on campus. At 45k, I don’t think it’s in danger of looking like a tennis facility. I also think all those green seats won’t absorb heat the way our bleachers do. It also appears that their entire concourse is shaded. Which as many of us have learned the past few years is huge in the south.

Good for them, but once again they are going to play in a stadium they do not own.

I hate the lack of communication from our AD but no way do UNC-CH, Duke, and Maryland sign a home and home with us without there being some sort of expansion in the works.

Those games could be played at B of A but I feel we will have an expanded stadium by then.

^ Definately hope we are expanded by the time those teams come home. Can just imagine all the empty upper level seats (which are all carolina blue) making it look like a home game for them lol. But imo, I hope we can keep all of our big marque games at home (basketball and football). Like in basketball, when we always have a big game at TWC…Spectrum Center. I get the marketing/branding etc, but would just love to pack our own home stadium/arena during big games.

Pilotonline.com: UAB football returns to Conference USA in 2017 after a 3-year absence

“Starting a football program from scratch is difficult, and there may not be initial success. Charlotte started football from scratch four years ago and the 49ers have yet to have a winning season.”

Loved THAT. >:(

That reads better than “Still looking for that first FBS home win”

They’re back.

UAB may be the first visiting team at Jerry Richardson Stadium that I will ever stand up for and applaud as they run on the field. I admire them for fighting for survival against the establishment forces at Tuscaloosa.

Same here. I will stand and cheer when they take the field, may be only time I ever do that. Glad to have them back playing football!! Hope they lose to us, but will be rooting for them in every other game.

I hope Phil and Judy see the size of that crowd.
