That was tough to watch. Crazy we put out that kind of effort after such a great win last week. Does anyone know more about Mattox?
They took a team photo on the field after the gameā¦Thatās how bad this loss is.
Sucks that we got so many fans to come out and then play like that.
I didnāt realize the loss of La Bianca would affect our O-line that much.
We desperately need some help on the D-line. Quarterback was seen making a sandwich before one throw.
Whatās the point of a 3-4 when you donāt have a lot of size up front? I hate the 3-4. Especially when you have to use the linebackers in coverage because you canāt rely on your secondary.
Defense needs to learn to adjust pre-snap. I saw way to many gaps in coverage before the play.
I was still in good spirits after the game. UNTIL⦠I saw two people taking down their carās 49ers flags and putting up Clemson flags. And they had the audacity to look at me and say, āGotta pull for some winners.ā
These fans that weāre worried about not coming back will be backā¦next Homecoming. They only come to Homecoming in BBall and theyāll do the same for football. LaBianca should be ready to go for Charleston Southern.
i turned it off in the third quarter. iām torn on how to feel. on one hand, this loss is horrible and our defensive line is just bad. i donāt know how to evaluate the coaching so i wonāt. on the other hand, two-thirds of the 2013 class is redshirted and there is a lot more talent in that class than the 2012 class so our team next season should look completly different. if we have these problems next season, then we have a problem. we still need to recruit more defensive lineman. i donāt see a lot on the roster but iām sure we will add more. how many more scholarships do we have to give? freshmen go through freshmen days but these freshmen will turn into sophomores and will have a lot more help. next season johnson will have duke, ross, kofa and bostick to throw to, have the same running backs, have an experienced offensive line. do i think today should have been so bad? no but it happens and is not the end of the world.
We are young. Tough loss.
And a great crowd!
Out of everything that frustrated me: the missed tackles, the dropped passes, the officiating, the fumbles, etc⦠probably the most frustrating thing of all is how little the fans seemed to be behind this team. I predicted that we would win because of a great home crowd, and boy was I dead wrong. Most of the people (in my section anyway) acted like they had never been to a football game before. I stood up and made noise on every single UNCP 3rd down, and most of those times I was literally the only one. There was no home field advantage, because the home crowd made it a non-issue. At one point on a 3rd down, I turned around and yelled as loud as I could āON YOUR FEET!!!ā and Iāve never seen so many blank stares in my life. Absolutely pathetic. I donāt even get why you go to a football game if youāre just going to sit silently for 3.5 hours.
The only other thing I have to say is that UNCP looked better than Gardner-Webb to me, and I completely agree with their ranking on CompughterRatings.com. There are a lot of other Division I teams that would have been destroyed by that team, so I canāt feel too bad about that.
Did the game suck? yeah it did - but itās ok. After last weekās emotional come from behind win a let down was sort of expected. I didnāt expect to lose, but it happens. I know Lambert said when we set out for FBS in 2015 it changed their strategy on recruiting and redshirting to some degree - everything is building towards 2015/16. We have basically no depth at all. Next year after a year in the weight room we will be bigger, faster and stronger. UNCPs line was huge compared to ours. It will come, just takes time. Loved that we didnāt quit.
The missed tackles are still an issue. Part of that though is some of these kids we are going up against are just stronger. When our kids are jrs and srs - those hits behind the line will be tackles. I read somewhere that UNCP was a sr laden team. I hope they enjoyed it because next year could be ugly.
As for coaching, I only have two complaints. One is the running up the middle, it became pretty clear early that with our line injuries we were going to struggle up the middle, but we kept running it. The other is on D I still do not understand why we wonāt jam a WR off the line or play physical. We play way off and allow the receiver to enter their route freely and then trail behind them. This off all things this year is driving me crazy.
No contact during this week in practice, should be good to go for CharSo per Lambert.
Clemson, BTW, is currently trailing BC 7-3 at halftimeāat home.
Special teams were atrocious today:
- UNCP blocked our FG attempt in the 1st half
- Allowed 52 yd kick-off return
- Roughing the kicker penalty
- Fumbled punt
Just awful.
Nice games from Matt Johnson and Austin Duke.

Did you proceed to murder them both right there on the spot?
Man, we sure know how to beat up our own teams.
We got outplayed by team that is bigger and more experienced than us. Save for JMU, they may well be the best team weāve played thus far. You can point out every little thing that you want, and I doubt that those things would counteract the fact that their OL had the size to buy their QB plenty of time on almost every play, and that QB could have taken down the Death Star today.
We really need to keep some perspective, and I think last weekās performance makes that difficult. Every game until 2015 is, for all intents and purposes, an exhibition game. Sure, Iād love to win every game⦠but until weāre full FBS/C-USA members and have bowl eligibility on the line, the only difference between winning and losing is that winning is more enjoyable. Still, losing is a hell of a lot more enjoyable than not playing. Iād rather go 0-11 than another year of 0-0.
Every game we play this year and next is in preparation for 2015. Keep that in mind, and enjoy this short time period in which Niner football wonāt take years off of your life.

I wanted too. They may have said, "time to pull for some winners. " Anyways, I was hoping the students would boo them as they drove through campus to leave with their tiger paw flags. They got off too easy.

Honestly, it doesnāt bother me too much. Keep in mind that we have a ton of folks coming back to campus for the first time since graduation, and for the first time as football fans. Many of them had their own teams to āfill the voidā and some let them go easier than others.
Itās all part of the culture shift that football has brought and will continue to bring over the next few years.
So from what I have heard, UNCP Coach Pete Shinnick is butthurt that we didnāt hire him. He had two weeks to prep for this game and obviously did his homework and fulfilled his revenge fantasy. Hats off to them for how hard they played. This was their Super Bowl and they played like champs. They were not dirty, they just kicked our teeth in. If Lambert ever leaves maybe we should take a look at Shinnick.
Our Frosh D Line got exposed again. Every time we play an experienced O Line, we struggle to get a pass rush mounted, and the QB making sandwiches comment was warranted. No one can cover that long. That set the tone for the entire game. That and they were willing to take what our zone coverage would readily give up - and we never really adjusted. I did not understand why we didnāt blitz more. Maybe Lambert & Tall thought the ball was coming out so fast it didnāt matter, but then there would be those plays where the QB had 7+ seconds to scan the field⦠those are maddening plays. GW had time like that too.
I really love how hard our battered, depleted D Line plays, and I believe I heard in the postgame that we pressed a couple of guys into service at DE this week that hadnāt played it before. Maybe we have some more guys redshirted (I donāt see them on the roster), and maybe Ogunjobi, Banks, Middleton etc will get bigger and stronger in the coming years. But in the meantime, IMO, we must recruit more DL including some JUCO DL or someone else with experience who would be immediately eligible. We will give up 100 pts to decent FBS teams if we do not develop that D line.
Iām happy to hear no one got hurt too badly and we need to rest up and gameplan for a CSU squad that hopefully will be worn out from a bloodbath in Colorado next weekend.
Still very happy to have football. And it was nice to finally be in that stadium with fall weather.
To me UNCP is the best team we have played so far. They are very well coached and talented on both sides of the ball. We had no answer for them in area today and made enough mistakes on our own to cost us any chance at being competitive. Iām glad they were so excited about the win that they wanted to document it with a picture on our field. Iām sure we will never play them again and I hope our program goes on to such heights that 30 years from now UNCP will still be talking about the time they beat us.
Hopefully we will learn from this and realized we need to give maximum effort every time and hopefully we will only get deeper and more talented in the future.
I think we all can use a week off, hopefully it will do us all some good.
JMU was better than UNCP. UNCP was better prepared for us.
Our offense is killing our defense but UNCP really beat us too. Our thin defense was on the field for 40 minutes today. Also, the officials were so slow they took us out of our fast pace rhythm that is required to wear down opposing defenses. I think we made some errors today, but not a lot of mental stuff. We basically got punched in the lip to start the game and never recovered. Last week the same thing happened, but a miracle occurred in the fourth quarter.
This game was extremely disappointing, thats the best description I can manage currently.
THE WORST LOST IN CHARLOTTE SPORTS AREA HISTORY!!!
