Another Niner WIN!!! All 5 starters scoring in double digits. And on the road. A special thanks go out to the USM coach, and those technical foul shots he gave us. .500 in conference.

Can we go .500 in the league?

USM doesn’t scare anyone, but how about that extremely balanced scoring. Maybe the most I have seen as a Niner fan. All 5 starters in double figures, all between 12 and 18 pts.
Everyone played well, but Davis was the noticeable X factor for us. When he was out, we were badly outscored. He came back in and we took over again.
Van Hook’s game is so diverse. He had some great outside shots, shots in the paint, handles the ball like a guard, and made some key passes. Great game for him.
Free Throws though. Amazing that we finished at 50%. We were shooting under 30% for a while.
What did their coach do to get the techs?

What did their coach do to get the techs?
Not exactly sure what he said, but he received the first one for arguing about a call and then almost immediately received another one, sending him along his way out of the arena. Regardless, we had 4 free throws from the episode. I think we made 2 of them . Their coach also received a technical in his previous game.

15 of 30 free throws that really needs to improve. Road wins are tough even against bad teams glad to see our first conference W.
Another game with low turnovers and good ball movement. I’m liking what I’m seeing. Coach Price really had to put this team together at the last minute. I’m eager to see what we can do once we get a solid recruiting class in.
It must be USM… That’s where Major got the gate.
Any win’s a good win this year. As NA noted, terrific balance(and I agree I can’t recall such scoring equity)… On the down side, these FT’s have to be giving Price indigestion.

Not sure about the first technical but for the second he followed the referee to midcourt and politely asked the official what he did, mixing in a little French.
And that was only after making our last 2 and 5 of the last 7 or so (IIRC). We missed our first 6 and 8 of our first 9 at the line. ???
Charlotte rallies to take down Southern Miss, 82-76

USM head coach Doc Sadler was ejected for the second consecutive game Thursday after being handed back-to-back technical fouls with 20 seconds remaining and his team down 74-69.
After scoring just two points in the first half, Uchebo finished with 14 points. He was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-10 on free throws.
“We started making adjustments on their screens,” Price said. “They were switching, which allowed mismatches inside. We tried to take advantage of it.”
Is this what actual “coaching” looks like?

This game highlighted that we really dont have a 2nd point guard. Even Price doesn’t like playing Brax there. Next year, having Davis and QJ Jr is going to be such a luxury.
I hope the parity on the scoring end helps bind the team together some more. In the post game, Van Hook was very aware of when and how they let it get away from them in the 1st half. They know they cannot take their foot off the gas with their defensive effort - just have to keep trying to put thoughts into action on that end.
I spoke about it in SB during the game, but that ODU team we lost to played some really good basketball the last 7 days. They just took down La Tech who hadnt lost a home game in a few years (39 straight).
We arent deep, but we can compete in this league.

We still have a lot of holes though and I doubt we fill them all for next year. I’m thinking we’re still 2 years away from being a contender, assuming we recruit well enough and don’t suffer major transfers.

I see what you did there.
Nice to hear Price say in postgame that this was the Vanhook we thought we were getting when he signed. In the games I have been able to watch, I haven’t really seen much from him up to this point.

I think the biggest issue with him is that he is a 6’4" PF. He might be successful against smaller teams. But it’s virtually impossible for him to have a lot of success against bigger teams.
When you look at our front court depth, with Sullivan’s injury and Benas’ lack of production, we basically have bad knees Uchebo and 6’4" Vanhook. It’s impressive we can get a win, even against USM, with that type of lineup.
