Please tell me we are going to hire an AD before the end of basketball season. Decisions need to be made that shouldn’t be made by an interim AD or the Chancellor.

I’m don’t think anyone knows what the hell we are doing….

I’m curious what changes shouldn’t be made by the interim AD or the Chancellor? I can’t imagine any that won’t have Gaber’s serious attention and influence.

I’m not being argumentative, just can’t see a scenario that doesn’t have the Chancellor’s backing (i.e., the real decision maker).

Oh I definitely agree that Gaber should be heavily involved. I just don’t think she should hire a basketball coach before hiring an AD. That would be a red flag for most AD candidates when she has already given Albin her support for football. The new AD would be tied to two revenue coach hires they didn’t even make for the foreseeable future all while dealing with buyouts for Biff, Hill and Fearne. i think it would be hard to find a good candidate who would be willing to sign up for that.

How about no more empty slogans or meaningless guarantees?

I vaguely remember that Lee Rose was courted by South Alabama. My memory is not what it musta be and it might have been Hal Wissel. (RIP). LOL

It was Bobby Lutz and South Alabama. Rose was courted by Purdue and, of course, left the QC for West Lafayette.

Ok, I agree with you MHH, but I think we have Fearne at least one more season unless (and it feels more possible now after last night’s disaster against USU) basketball does finish dead last as predicted…so I really don’t see a new hoops coach even on the table until after a new AD.

I’m afraid you are correct about 1 more year of Fearne. If that happens I think next season could be much worse than this season because he will obviously be a lame duck coach. Performance on the court and attendance will probably be at an all time low.

You are right , of course, about Bobby. Did Lee leave here for Purdue? I thought he spent some time in FL.

Yep, Rose did. Spent two seasons at Purdue then left for South Florida in 1980, in large part because USF benefactor and NY Yankees owner George Steinbrenner helped bankroll the offer by the Bulls. That move by Rose lasted for 6 seasons.

Anyway, I have long thought he probably would have had a long Big Ten tenure if he had stayed with the Boilermakers. Since Rose left Purdue, they have had two HCs - Gene Keady (1980-2005) and Matt Painter.

I don’t see us finishing last, with ecu in tge conference. Either way, major disappointment

Plus UTSA, Rice, Temple, and probably perennial underachiever Tulane.

I don’t think we’ll finish last, but this team has really disappointed so far…the only thing that might save the niners, this season the AC is not impressing generally. I do believe Fearne can coach, I do believe there is a major talent upgrade from last season…but why it’s not gelling by now, that falls on Fearne and his staff.

I think we have a major talent upgrade, not so sure fearne can coach. No proof of that

First season and professional career suggests the ability to coach…but none of that matters if this team, with the upgrade, finishes with a losing record. Point of all this is why is the team failing to get results…ultimately, that falls on a coach and staff if the talent is there. We know Albin knows how to coach and win, but only so much a coach can do when the talent is absent. But if we judge Albin by the same standard, he’s a failure. Fearne’s team is under-performing, massively…he either turns it around fast, or I can see him gone after this season (but likely after next).

I’m just not sure he is cut out to be a college coach. I think it takes someone who knows basketball and can also be a cheerleader/motivator to get the most out of college players. I don’t think Sanchez or Fearne are great at the motivational part. And I’m not sure either one of them know how to coach an effective offense.

Perhaps you’re right, this season is a potential turning point for Fearne here…all I really know is that this team is truly disappointing, what’s the reason, I can’t know for sure…even during Bobby’s tenure, he had disappointing seasons. Whether Fearne is the guy to get us back to a NIT or, hell, even win a conference tourney game, we’ll know soon enough.
