I for one am glad to see what others think. Doesnāt matter to me that itās UNC-CH fans, but given thereās only so many boards whoās fans would be compelled to make that many comments I can see why Mike turned there. Itās not like they give a flying flip in California or Michigan what weāre up to.
When did we start caring about this?

Agreed. Though, Iām sure it would have gone over better had Mike opted for Wake or anyone other than UNCCH for the feedback.
When did we start caring about this?
Agree.
"I have seen the feasibility studies and I have to say the economics just do not add up. Of course, it has been done before. UAB and USF have had success in smaller markets than Charlotte. They are still not self sustaining economically however. Also, they have much larger talent pools from which to draw. "

I couldnāt find one on Packpride, the other board I go to often. Duke boards almost never talk football. That one on Tar Heel board had 38 posts, many interesting. Iām just a giver.
Thanks mike.
Tarhole fans and students dont feel threatened IMO because they dont know what theyāre talking about. Theyāre generally seperiorists who think they are better than everyone just becuase they go to UNCCH. Its the people in charge who realize what a threat we are.
They also say we let āanyone inā but I know people who have been turned away from Charlotte that got into NCSU, APP, ECU, UNCW etc. They also dont realize that as we increase the number of students here, our avg SAT scores remain the same if they dont rise a bit. Our programs have been getting more and more national attention, causing people from all around the nation to begin to want to come here. The city itself also is a big help in that with NASCAR, NFL, NBA, and the biggest tourist attraction in NC (cmills) all within a 20 minute drive. You might be suprised at how many people Iām in class with that are from NJ, NY, and VA.
The city itself also is a big help in that with NASCAR, NFL, NBA, and the biggest tourist attraction in NC (cmills) all within a 20 minute drive. That's exactly it...they only have tarhole athletics. When we overtake them in football etc... what would be their identity? :49ers:
Thanks Mike. I for one like to see this, essentially a bunch of uneducated fans who seem to only know what theyāve been told by others or what was known 10+ years ago. I donāt believe they feel threatened at all, they just do not know what this current school is all about, and what it is moving towards. The economics are the only thing that worries me, but if everything is approached and thought out correctly there is no reason it cannot work. Whereād this guy read the feasibility information? Is it online? Iāve seen the articles in the paper, but not any of the bread and butter information.
The comments about the recruiting grounds not being fertile here is a joke. At the beginning of the football season, both Butler and Independence were ranked in the USA Today top 25 HS football poll. Many of the high profile kids were recruited by NCSU, Clemson, ND, etc. Iām not saying we get these kids off the bat, but in 10+ years it could begin to become a possibility. Many of the kids who would be in our bracket (starting off) were going to GWU, App, Furman, etc. Starting a program I think we could compete with some of these schools, maybe not App.
maybe not App.
unless they dont like the cold:biggrin:
I'm just a giver.
thats not what I heard
Since when did the tar holes have āBig time D1 footballā? 1997, then when Durant was a frosh? Yea, they were good but still big time football doesnāt exist in Chapel Hell. ECU, UNC-R, App St, & Wake > UNC-CH football.
So Mike, do you think UNC-CH feels threatened?
Fans? No. Not for football. Leaders? They understand there could be potential WAY DOWN THE ROAD.
However, it is my understanding certain acc leaders were a little leery of us joining CUSA. I even heard all about a sports editor running around telling everyone we belonged in the CAA. Too bad the early years of CUSA never developed to what people thought they would.
Though, Iām sure it would have gone over better had Mike opted for Wake or anyone other than UNCCH for the feedback.
That may be true⦠however, my gut feeling tells me the State and Wake fans would be less respectful with their comments than were those chapel hill fans.
Hereās my question. Which Board did these responses come from? Do the responses represent a sloid blend of all chapel hill fans?

Pretty sure mike stated earlier that State didnt have anything on their message board about us getting football but that tarholes had like 39 or so comments.
Superior they are⦠NOT
To be a great journalist you have to inspire people to think and to dream and sometimes make them laugh (Flann OāBrien comes to mind). In all my years reading the Observer it has never done any of those things. Itās a cookie cutter paper with cookie cutter journalists. The sports section in particular likes to antagonize people. Charlotte grads and students can be a thin-skinned lot. I never thought when I went to school there that it was going to thin my skin, but thatās what it did.
I have a MA in geography and two undergrad degrees. I was an excellent student and should feel no shame. But plenty of people want to make me feel that way. Community College, toss a salad and get a 3.0. Comments like that.
There is way too much snobbery in American education. The state school rivalries are the worst and I believe Charlotte is maybe the worst bastard son in the country.
So Persinger, you know all this and continue to antagonize us. What does that say about your character?

Excellent points. Whatās the purpose of this thread anyway? Is it for damage control for the comments made by Barney and Goober? Can we get a link to this site?
So Mike, do you think UNC-CH feels threatened?
Does unc-ch have a football team. Maybe we could start our programs at the same time.
I donāt think any UNC CH fan feels threatened by Charlotte.
I do think the sr level UNC adminstration types know that in 15 years we may have 35,000 students and a D1 football team, that is what they donāt want to see.
They donāt feel threatened and that will be their undoingā¦
