Yeah it would have been a good idea to build a mlb stadium with no team…

This just in: There are no major league ballparks in Las Vegas, Portland, Monterrey or any other non-major league city.

Details in about 6 months when relocation plans are announced and a stadium is proposed (but not started or built, same situation as Charlotte).

I guess a team in Las Vegas would be profitable because there is so much money in that town but who would go to the games? Las Vegas is a tourist destination. There is so much to do why would you want to go to a baseball game if you are on vacation? Most of the people who live there work in the tourism industry and are transplans from somewhere else. Plus Las Vegas is hot especially during the summer so more than likely they would have to play in a dome. Since it is so hot during the summer that is one of the slowest tourism times in Vegas. As, for Charlotte getting the team, I think there is about a zero percent chance that the city is going to drop almost a half billion dollars on a stadium.

I think baseball could survive in Vegas, and I’ll tell you why. First, there have to be some reasonably-priced entertainment options, and that would be one of them (you can always get tickets in the outfield for games on the cheap). Second, some times you just can’t gamble any more. Especially during the day time. I think that night games might actually suffer a little bit in Vegas, but there isn’t enough cheap entertainment in the day time in Vegas to hold everyone over. Their fan base, sure, could be made up of 50% tourists at any one game. But I think that the stands would be full every game.

I think the area they might actually be hurt most would be corporate sponsorships, since the casinos aren’t likely to jump on board to support what would be seen as a competing entity.

Then again, maybe they would ALL jump on board, not wanting one casino to have the advertising edge over another.

Probably a better Idea than building a basketball arena with the team they have!

My point is there are other opportunities other than NBA Basketball for Charlotte.

Not just no, but hell no. There wouldn’t be enough fan support and the cable deal would be insufficient. Baseball is a cap-free enterprise, and we’d be priced right out of the talent.

i like the braves too much to have their division foe in charlotte that would absolutely suck. I’d feel obligated to cheer for the fish even if i hated them so…

Please reference the voice in field of dreams for a convincing rebuttle. Or perhaps you could listen to the voice of basketball “if you build it the taxpayers will pay for it.”

MLB would never last in Charlotte. This is a terrible sports city. So much to offer, but no support.

Right on the money!
